Audience Member Crimetime is a television show that depicts reenactments of recent real-life crimes. When the show starts to profile the deeds of an active serial killer who keeps one eye from each of his victims, the show becomes a hit and causes a moral dilemma for the actor portraying the killer as producers hope for more murders to sustain ratings. Film unwisely muddles itself somewhat by introducting a relationship between the killer and actor portraying him on tv. Probably a bit ahead of its time given that reality tv had not yet taken off (although America's Most Wanted premiered many years earlier). Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Struggling actor lands a defining part in a sensationalist real crime show depicting recent murders. Seemed to have some potential as a bit of a dark satire of reality tv (with producers hoping for additional murders to support ratings) but drifted away with focus paid on the relationship between actor and killer in the end. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member A tough one to rate - this is a slow paced Serial Killer film, which perhaps comes from quite an original angle, in parts the acting is terrible and the film feels much older than it actually is and yet there was something that just about held me until the end. Pete Postlewaite's character became more interesting toward the end and that may have been the reason why, Stephen Baldwin, was, hmmm, interesting, quite weird, but not in a good way. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member A comically brilliant film. Steven Baldwin plays an over excitable actor which is ironic because he cannot act. He is a walking piece of spam. He gets a part on "crimetime" a TV show similar to Crime watch as a murderer who cuts out eyeballs. Pete Postlethwaite is superb as the eyeball trimming murderer with a dying wife and wonderful taste in settees. Slowly the two roles of actor and murderer merge as they become obsessed with each other. The shows producer is a crazy woman who is desperate for ratings and for some reason always has regal music playing when she is on screen. A golden nugget of a movie.
