A great introduction to Gabriel Garcia Marquez' style.
Facinating details.

I watched this for school. It is based off a good novella by Garcia Marquez. The actors were alright. They changed a ton of things, though there was the trail of letters scene which I liked better than how it was actually done in the book.

One of the very few Italian-colombian co productions, and possibly the only one where there's a strong clash of accents and ethnicities that seriously and irreparably affect a very folkloric tale. Another annoying problem is the very slow pace at some parts.
Some good foreign actors like Gian Maria Volonté and the lusty Ornella Muti are there just to be seen, since almost no one speaks spanish and are dubbed in varied accents like castilian and even mexican. Putting aside all those wrong choices, the score is quite good and the film adapts faithfully what I consider to be Gabriel Garcia Marquez's finest work.
Good enough, but far from excellent.

The film is beautiful to look at, and remarkable in the clarity of its tragic vision.
