Tara Brady Irish Times Who do you think you are kidding, fake Dad's Army? Rated: 2/5 Feb 8, 2016 Full Review David Sexton London Evening Standard It was a sitcom, which is to say habitual - and since it is still frequently broadcast and enjoyed, it is with us as much as it ever was. And we don't enjoy our favourite habits being changed for us. Rated: 1/5 Feb 7, 2016 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Oliver Parker's direction does little to lighten the tone; from the bull-in-a-field opening to the beach-bound battle finale, subtlety is not the film's strong suit. Rated: 2/5 Feb 7, 2016 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) Another mediocre modern remake of a beloved old TV show. Rated: 2/5 May 13, 2020 Full Review Bertie Archer One Room With A View Borrowing enough from the original series and allowing the new faces to develop the old characters, they've found the balance so often lacking in reboots. Rated: 3/5 Apr 9, 2019 Full Review Paula Fleri-Soler Times of Malta The comedy is a little too obvious, the plot is razor-thin and the story never takes advantage of its film-length running time, and often it feels like a normal episode stretched to breaking point. ian b Terrible.Should never have got off the cutting room floor.Shambles. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/24 Full Review Samantha S A good attempt but just not quite there. Also at times a bit too vulgar with visual gags that would have felt totally out of place in the original series, which this is trying its best to imitate. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/09/23 Full Review Audience Member A good movie, but the comedy isn't always that funny. Still a must-see though! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Polly H If you're a Dad's Army fan like me then you'll thoroughly enjoy it. The script lacks richness at times and the story is a bit weak, but I like Dad's Army so much that I just loved this tribute to the originals. Toby Jones is outstanding and really believable in the role of Captain Mainwaring and Bill Nighy is always a joy to watch, as is Michael Gambon. It's very silly but great fun. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/23/21 Full Review Audience Member A pointless remake . Only laughed once during the whole film . Did the film makers ever watch the original .? Some good actors are wasted on this film.. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Nothing more needs to be said. Far too much innuendo and does not do justice to the original at all Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews
