Critics Consensus

Damascus Cover is essentially every bit the hackneyed espionage drama that any veteran of '90s action thrillers might expect after reading its title.

Larushka Ivan-Zadeh Times (UK) The persuasive use of real locations only underlines the frustrating sketchiness when it comes to exploring the potentially fascinating intricacies of Israeli-Syrian power play. Rated: 2/5 Aug 6, 2018 Full Review Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) Damascus Cover was the last film Hurt made - but it isn't worth seeking out for that reason, or many others. Rated: 2/5 Aug 2, 2018 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian [An] unfortunately rather ropey film, destined to be blearily viewed on a thousand long-haul flights or channel-hoppingly glimpsed on your way past ITV4. Rated: 2/5 Aug 2, 2018 Full Review Rich Phippen HeyUGuys Director and star excel in this bleak view of a derelict man fighting his past, however the script weighs the film down and leaves us with very little which resonates. Rated: 2/5 Jun 4, 2019 Full Review Matthew Bond The Mail on Sunday (UK) It's the clunky screenplay and Jonathan Rhys Meyers's performance as an undercover German-Israeli agent that do the damage. Rated: 2/5 Aug 6, 2018 Full Review Paddy Kehoe RTÉ (Ireland) Jonathan Rhys Meyers deserves a better script and so does everybody else. Rated: 2/5 Aug 3, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Quase bom, regular... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/07/22 Full Review Audience Member It was just as bad as hell Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Very real, runs like a novel, makes you listen and follow, a quality so missing from today's 'blockbusters'. Jason Bourne without being a super-agent. If u like a good story, this is ur movie. Jonathan rhys-meyers and everyone else delivers! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A B movie about a spy story that had too many side tracts from the main plot. Not enough background on those to be saved. A fairly good ending. Background was good , Not the best movie but worth seeing, Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing film. I have watched tons of these types of movies in my life and will always remember this one. Watch it and you won't be disappointed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Decent plot and terrible acting by the leading roles Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Olivia Thirlby. Mr Rhys Meyers should have never left the pool table venues. He clearly does not have an acting background... It seems to be more worried about his looks in front of the camera, overacting in every scene and concentrating on making his voice sound charismatic rather than making his character believable. A movie that I have not been able to finish, had to skip scenes, and end up giving up. What I fail to comprehend is why Mr. Rhys Meyers keeps getting roles when clearly he lacks the acting principles. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
