Audience Member A complex and crazy martial arts movie with lots of characters and subplots. Ti Lung is Tuan Changqing, the Deadly Breaking Sword. Tuan has a unique style, leaving coffins ready for his defeated opponents and leaving an inch in the corpses of his victims. When a halberd user is treated by a sinister doctor, they must battle again. Fu Sheng has a supporting role as a gambler who gets mixed up in all these plotlines. It is a pretty entertaining movie, but it could have used more fighting and less talking. A nice cast but it could have been better. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Wow, that description above is a bit maddening to me at the moment. It doesn't become a "comical kung fu buddy flick." Most people in the movie are pretty serious, and then you have the always entertaining Alexander Fu Sheng doing what he does best -- playing the overconfident and tricky smart ass who is convincing both in action scenes and as comic relief. Then there's that comment about Dr. Kuo (played by Ku Feng, who I'm slowly realizing is in all these movies). Well I went into the movie fairly cold, and liked how in the first hour, maybe more, there is no clearly defined villain. You could take any side you want, and everyone seemed likable. Ti Lung presented himself from the start as villainous but I was still on his side. Things clear up a bit later on. I love the way Fu Sheng's comedy mixes in with the rest of the movie, and the music was good too. Not all these classics are directed by Chang Cheh. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Ti Lung teams up with a guard to kill a local crime boss know as the "Killer Doctor." Another Shaw Brothers production that has good production values, solid fight sequences and competent direction by Sun Chun. Overall this is an entertaining film with better than average fight sequences, even if you've essentially seen many times before. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
