Helleken S Yeah, Hurray, Miss Marvel without the superpowers.. is there a CTrl+V key stuck at Netflix? I can perfectly understand why people can "identify" with that movie.. its trivial and odds are it will hit many spots, the average people person has seen it its live.. but do we really need the narrated slide show from uncle Alberts holiday trip to the Niagara falls evenings back? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/04/22 Full Review Audience Member Weak characters and superficial treatment of complex relationships. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Did someone secretly record my life? This was recommended to me by a friend and I've never seen a more accurate reflection of the first-gen experience. Didn't know what I was missing in my tv shows/movies until I saw this. Makes me crave more content from Bengali-American creators. Also, if you've never drank Thums Up, go buy yourself a case or two. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member There's a lot of talk of representation/diversity/inclusion in Hollywood and no one's putting their money where their mouth is. With Definition Please, it was refreshing to see a real South Asian American young woman in a non-stereotypical lead role, surrounded by well-rounded, authentic South Asian American/Asian American characters. It's a funny, charming, and heartfelt film. Looking forward to seeing what Sujata, Ritesh, Anna, and the rest of the team do next! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Alefiyah L LOVE! I felt like this movie addressed so many topics in such nuanced ways from mental health to family dynamics to the process of bridging two cultures to sex/dating. As a 1st gen, Indian-American woman, I felt seen and represented in ways I haven't ever before. Sujata Day is truly brilliant..from writing to directing to acting in the film, and Ritesh Rajan's performance is stunning and beautiful. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/22 Full Review maricella g This movie describes adulthood in the form of a perfect, wrapped gift. Day, and especially Rajan's, performance blew me away and pulled all the heartstrings. I wholeheartedly relate to this film. The light humor, Bengali cultural references, and emotional connections between the characters, made this film such a delight to watch. Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Day and Rajan make you care deeply about both of their vulnerable and flawed characters. Rated: 3/4 Jan 27, 2022 Full Review Claudia Puig FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) I like this film a lot. I think Sujata Day is a major talent. Jan 26, 2022 Full Review Kimber Myers Los Angeles Times [Sujata] Day has something as both an actress and a filmmaker ... her script sparks to life at times, and as a director, she demonstrates a unique style ... Jan 24, 2022 Full Review Alisha Mughal Exclaim! Finding humour in intergenerational trauma, Definition Please brilliantly redefines how the South Asian American experience is portrayed onscreen. Rated: 7/10 Aug 15, 2023 Full Review Nuha Hassan Film Cred Day’s family dramedy challenges a lot of the expectations of the South Asian community. It’s a story about a family that struggles with the past, due to death and mental health, and how it affects them as a whole. Jul 20, 2023 Full Review Ron Seoul-Oh POC Culture It’s not often that we get a film that honestly portrays the joys and challenges of a South Asian family and touches issues like death, mental illness and the burdens of family.
