Lisa Schwarzbaum Entertainment Weekly Rated: C Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times A movie like this depends on tone more than anything else. Moviegoers who don't like the rhythm may grow impatient. It's not a romance, a drama or an adventure, but the evocation of a time and place. The characters are odd because they grew up that way. Steve D A solid but unremarkable film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Spoiler Alert:: Go right to the ending. Young girl who blows things up blows a hole in the aqueduct pipe to get water for the water pipe. Now the assumption is that ATF get's involve and she is going to prison. The water gets shut off as the pipe is repaired and the desert dries up again. Lousy ending. Rewind to a missed opportunity. The water that was allocated was redirected for a nearby facility that makes Empire Soda. One of the locals figures out that if you boil the soda down the residue is a volatile explosive. New ending for movie. As EPA and FBI are leaving the little town Ely, the young girl bomber informs them of the bomb capable Coke that is manufactured around the world in third world countries where terrorism is ripe. This gets all of the factories shut down and executives arrested and the water park gets it allocated water back. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Wholly unoriginal film, can be compared to a hundred different indie flicks Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Cast: Casey Affleck, Brendan Sexton III, Kate Hudson, Christina Ricci, John Heard, Ethan Suplee, Sara Gilbert, Peter Sarsgaard, Lee Holmes, Michael Ironside Director: Morgan J. Freeman Summary: When the FBI quarantines a seemingly nondescript town that boasts a random roadside attraction -- the world's largest ice cream cone -- visiting starlet Skye (Kate Hudson) and her father (John Heard) encounter an assemblage of memorable locals they won't soon forget. My Thoughts: "This is an offbeat movie with a great (then) young cast. Great quirky character's that some us small town grown kids can relate to. Not much to do in small towns, so you have to entertain yourselves somehow. Liked their choices of fun, it was entertaining to watch. Had some funny moments, and was never boring. But this is much more of a dark comedy. Had some deep stuff going on with Brenden Sexton III, character. It was nice to see him in a somewhat leading role. Definitely worth the rental." Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member One of those movies which leaves me wondering "what was the point?" Maybe I just don't get it. I don't get the 'R' rating either. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Is ok, some cute humor. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews
