Dr. Mark Sloan (Dick Van Dyke) accompanies his son, Steve (Barry Van Dyke), as he investigates the death of a mean-spirited businessman. Steve believes that Nick Osborne (Bill Bixby), one of Mark's patients, has committed the murder. But when Mark begins his own investigation -- aided by his colleagues Amanda Bentley (Cynthia Gibb), an attractive, astute pathologist; and Jack Parker (Stephen Caffrey), a young doctor -- he becomes convinced of Nick's innocence.
