Variety Staff Variety What little narrative or characterization shows up on screen could barely fill an abridged short story. May 5, 2008 Full Review Time Out The script, about small-timers who wished they were bigger, is soon totally undermined by Fonda's most complacent performance to date and Susan George's sub-Goldie Hawn antics. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Vincent Canby New York Times The film is so bereft of emotion and so full of physical movement that it's possible this is a point that John Hough, the director, and the screenwriters wanted to make. It's a very small point to be made by such a noisy picture. Rated: 1.5/5 May 9, 2005 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com the final chase is a high-water-mark of stunt-work, well handled by John Hough... Simultaneously sociopathic and patriotic, it’s an anti-establishment drama without the politics, and shows Fonda’s free-wheeling charisma and anti-hero styling at its best. Rated: 4/5 Jan 23, 2024 Full Review David Sterritt Christian Science Monitor A nasty thriller. Oct 8, 2021 Full Review Dick Lochte Los Angeles Free Press I can't begin to imagine what was in the minds of the people responsible for it or what they hoped to prove by producing it. Audience Member Ok wow, I heard of this movie through Death Proof (which sucks) and had to see this. I thought it was going to be a ripoff of Bonnie and Clyde which is true a little, but ended up being much better than that. You just gotta love the cars of the 70’s, something about them crashing into each other and exploding is undeniably cool. This movie doesn’t explain a lot, but it doesn’t have to. You know what you need to know and you are thrown into the action. Unlike Death Proof, the car chases are actually good, and get you excited about what you are watching. I also like how this movie actually made me root for the villains (the main characters). That ending was just so out of left field, it was anticlimactic and yet somehow incredibly shocking. It was just absolutely devious how that was pulled off. I also want to say, I’d love to own a green 1969 Dodge Charger. 4/5 stars. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/22/24 Full Review Roy V What a false, absurd, distortion! However, the car was boss and the fashion is perfectly represented. Oh how I love the Styles and simplicity of the '70s! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/11/23 Full Review dave s If you enjoy the non-stop revving of car engines and squealing breaks and the excitement of cars crashing, Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry should land right in your wheelhouse. If the aforementioned attributes aren't up your alley, avoid the movie at all costs. Larry (Peter Fonda) and Deke (Adam Roarke) knock off a grocery store and make off with the proceeds in a souped-up car. Before they know it, Larry's one-night stand from the previous evening, the beautiful but annoying Mary (Susan George), is along for the ride. Fonda and Roarke do their best with an incredibly annoying script that consists primarily of non-stop juvenile insults. George, on the other hand, seems more preoccupied with her dopey and inconsistent Southern accent than actually trying to give a decent performance. To top it off, none of it makes a lick of sense – after pulling off a decent caper, why are the bandits intent on doing everything they can to draw the attention of the police? It all gets a bit tiring after about twenty minutes. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Pierre L Go Fast are dangerous. Their apology is stupid and brainless. Just Kill them all or let them die. This is the way... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/21/22 Full Review scott m One of the best road movies ever made. I'd never heard of it until today and read that it's one of Quentin Tarantino's favorite movies. I really enjoyed it. I always thought Peter Fonda was a joke of an actor but he does a decent job here. It's about 2 guys who are trying to drive in NASCAR but don't have the money, so they decide to rob a grocery store. Extremely well made. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review stuart s It's a great car chase movie. Peter Fonda, Susan George, Adam Roarke and Mother Mopar's 440's. I especially love the ending. What else could you want? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
