Critics Consensus

Do Revenge could have used a bit more bite, but Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes make this a sweet dish best served to viewers who understand that high school can be hell.

The highest compliment one can pay Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s viciously delectable “Do Revenge” is that it should stand alongside the many iconic teen flicks it both cribs from and pays homage to. Go to Full Review

If you love that era of teen movies – and easter eggs pointing to them – as much as Jennifer Kaytin Robinson does, Do Revenge can be intoxicatingly fun. Go to Full Review

This 118-minute movie is a tad long but is well-scripted and strongly acted, with Maya Hawke, the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, especially good. Go to Full Review

Netflix’s Do Revenge is tremendous, despite having some small faults. It takes its place without question as one of the best teen dark comedies in recent memory and could wind up being considered iconic in the years to come Go to Full Review

With references to classic teen movies and cameos from VERY familiar faces, Do Revenge is a cleverly crafted and entertaining film that could potentially become for new generations what the films it intends to honor were for past generations. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 4d Do Revenge is a glossy, teen-focused revenge film that leans heavily into style over substance. It plays like a high-school chick flick mixed with dark comedy, wrapped in a hyper-polished, Valley Girl aesthetic. While it has moments of fun and satire, the tone often feels too prim, too curated, and ultimately shallow. The screenplay struggles with consistency, bouncing between sharp ideas and flat execution, which makes the pacing drag and the tension fade. There is a solid twist near the end that briefly elevates the film, but it isn’t strong enough to justify the buildup. The movie clearly targets a specific audience and doesn’t try to broaden its appeal, which limits its impact. Performances are fine, and the pairing of familiar young stars adds novelty, but the story lacks energy and bite. It’s watchable once, mildly entertaining in spots, but not memorable or rewatchable. See more L. F Nov 11 The 2004 'Mean Girls' holds a very special place in my heart and I enjoyed the nods that 'Do Revenge' made to it (along with a few other classic teen movies!). Some details of the plot were rushed and lacking in terms of credibility, which was a shame. A more condensed timeline may have helped give a better sense of the intensity of the friendships... as it stands I just didn't really believe any of them. That said, it was fun and unexpected with a cracking sound track - I think Regina George would approve! See more VITALII H @freakynickison Oct 28 High budget movie with pretty naive aspects to it. Production was good, loved the outfits! Writing was lacking some... details I guess. Sometimes it felt like screenwriters could've done a better job. But what really saved the movie is the plot twist which took place after a hour of watching. It was so unexpected, like BANG! And the tables immediately turned. No disrespect to Austin (who played Max) but I think that it would be better if creators picked another actor for this role, just my opinion... See more Divya M Sep 6 “This movie is fueled by climate denialism, making it fundamentally rotten. Its content is nothing more than personal revenge wrapped in a fake sense of coolness, while mocking issues that are crucial to the world. In Do Revenge, instead of showing teenagers as thoughtful or socially aware, the film paints them as so consumed by petty revenge games that they even turn climate change activism into a joke. When the youth of today are meant to be the front line in addressing the climate crisis, reducing activism to a punchline is not just irresponsible—it’s harmful. Worse, these shallow and vengeful characters risk becoming false role models for kids, normalizing cruelty and trivializing global issues. Movies like this shouldn’t just be criticized—they should be banned for the damage they do to young minds and the seriousness of the issues they mock.” See more Ido K. @BrandStrategyGuru Jul 28 A mashup of Mean Girls, Heathers, She’s All That, and probably a few other teen movies - as long as you go with the flow, it’s a fun ride.
What I liked about it was that no one from the lead characters was a good person. They were all extremely flawed and problematic.
It’s definitely not funny like Mean Girls and the writing is not as sharp, but it was a frothy fun flick. See more inta k @intuciic Jun 27 your typical teen revenge movie See more Read all reviews
