Synopsis
Clint Eastwood narrates this documentary about the seaside community of Carmel, Calif., and its rich cultural history. The town began with the founding of the Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo in 1771. Into the 19th century, the picturesque town became a haven for artistic types, attracting the likes of poet Robinson Jeffers and novelists Sinclair Lewis and Jack London. But, with the 1950s, Carmel's unique ambiance began to be threatened by modern development patterns.
