Palipali K An eye opening on the suffering animals raised for food go through in the meat and dairy industries. I'm thankful for this documentary, and I thank Joaquín Phoenix for narrating it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/11/24 Full Review Heather B Absolutely life changing film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/21/24 Full Review Wing Yin C Life changing documentary. A chance for us to rethink the impact that our lifestyle have towards animals. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/28/23 Full Review Audience Member I was a half assed vegetarian before watching this film and was vegan by the end. I have watched several similarly themed films before, Cowspiracy, What the Health etc, but none had the same life changing impact. It is very hard to watch, (I had to take a break in the middle to catch my breath and get another box of tissues), but am glad that I did. I don't know how anyone with a pulse can watch Earthlings without being profoundly affected by it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Do I think that this information is important? Yes. Do I think that this film opened the eyes of many ignorant people? Yes. Did it reenforce my pro-veganism stance? Yes. Was the opening sequence and Joaquin Phoenix's narration a bit dramatic? Yes. Do I think that this film effectively uses pathos? Absolutely. Did I enjoy the film? Yes, in that I feel more educated on humanity's exploitation of animals in agriculture. Do I think that this film has aged well? No, I really don't. This style of guerrilla cinematography is quite aggressive and really hammers in the 'meat is murder' image that lead to the stereotyping of vegans being angry animal liberationists. Personally, I think this type of scare-tactic isn't as effective in converting people to a plant-based lifestyle. There have been vegan-inspiring films that successfully aren't judgmental and have come out since this film has in 2005, and this film was kind of a first of its kind on this subject. Also... I'm not sure it was appropriate to compare the plight of jews, gay people, gypsies, disabled people, etc. in Nazi Germany to how we treat chickens in modern day coops. I understand the comparison was done for imagery and shock purposes, but I really don't think it's an effective logic in an argument. I swear I'm not a speciesist, but nothing will ever compare to the how people were treated in concentration camps, and this whole scene maybe me really uncomfortable in 2021. Would I recommend this film? Yes, but I'd give them a graphic content warning before they clicked play. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member ♦️ I watch it every couple of years just to remind myself why I'm a part time vegetarian. I grew up on a dairy ranch and we treated our fellow 'earthlings' in a much more humane way. The butchering of the pigs, sheep and rabbits was the hardest. ♦️ The movie is a little heavy-handed; but letting the imagery soak in is the best way to see our crimes (industrial animal production) against those we are to have dominion over -- not mistreat and torture. ♦️ Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
