Adam Nayman The Ringer Lucile Hadzihalilovic’s grim fairy tale is titled after a tiny, burrowing insect, and like its namesake it furiously digs its way into your consciousness. Dec 8, 2022 Full Review Peter Debruge Variety “Earwig” teeters on the brink of ennui for most of its taxing two-hour running time, asking us to care about characters the film hasn’t really defined. Jul 19, 2022 Full Review Simon Abrams RogerEbert.com There’s something essential missing from Earwig and it’s not for want of inspiration or creativity. Hadžihalilović's latest is both too hazy to make a great adaptation and too focused to be genuinely dream-like. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 15, 2022 Full Review Hector A. Gonzalez The Movie Buff Lucile Hadžihalilović continues her streak of crafting nightmarish fever-dream-esque films with her latest, “Earwig,” which is a weird film that does take its time to settle down, but when it does, it’s pretty fascinating. Rated: B- Sep 8, 2024 Full Review Soham Gadre Vague Visages The magic of Hadzihalilovic’s Earwig comes in the form of its suggestion that viewers abandon their expectations and preconceptions about what cinema should be and what a story can be. Jan 9, 2024 Full Review Nuha Hassan Nuha Hassan (Medium) Earwig had the potential to be an interesting movie, with a mysterious concept, but it’s beyond conceivable for all the wrong reasons. E aquele fim?? Nossa, decepcionante. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/14/24 Full Review avindu g Of course he is the father but what if a man cannot father beyond the limit of caretaker what a household looks like is visualised well the silence the heartbreaking loneliness of Mia may talk to many of us. Melting ice with anxious eavesdropping signals the child is a burden for Albert. He deface his lover scarring her for being unable to get rid of his burden, she still follow Albert leaving fortunes and getting pitied with free drinks thats the low she falls to be with him. Celeste scars him for life same as herself through which they become one. Outward grpahic nature induce the natural perspective of the society towards such a union. Earwig is a love story that cries for us the tears of living through life. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Valerii Ege D When you don't have any story to tell, you start to depend on cinematic techniques. Director has created a very intense atmosphere for sure. The sound design was very good but can't say the same thing for the storytelling. Because there is none. The whole movie is like a lesson for students about "how to use cinematic techniques to create unquestionable art movies". Probably this is her style. This was my first Lucile Hadzihalilovic movie. Probably will stay as the last one. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/05/22 Full Review Audience Member The first 30 minutes had no dialogue, it was effectively depressing and it then dragged on for another 90 minutes without any entertainment value.. the visual art will leave you feeling like you wasted 2 hours... I read somewhere that this feels like a David Lynch piece, but more dark and loose, I agree. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Is it too much to ask what and why? I'd like a sequel and a resolution to this story that had no ending. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews
