Liz Braun Toronto Sun There's an attractive air of menace hanging over the proceedings, but otherwise the movie feels stagey and stilted. Rated: 2.5/5 Feb 27, 2015 Full Review Liam Lacey Globe and Mail A good workout for a talented cast ... Rated: 2.5/4 Feb 27, 2015 Full Review Peter Howell Toronto Star There's no small pleasure in watching Dolan and Greenwood square off against each other ... Rated: 2.5/4 Feb 27, 2015 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Essentially a two-hander broken up with flashbacks, but director Charles Biname skilfully builds drama and tension throughout. It's a shame that there is no payoff before the end credits roll. Rated: 3/5 Feb 2, 2021 Full Review Allie Gemmill CineVue Elephant Song may be small in scope but it is big in its vision. It is a film that will keep your curiosity piqued, delivering on it premise to complete satisfaction. Rated: 3/5 Apr 5, 2019 Full Review José Teodoro Cinema Scope ... brims with unmotivated camera dips, lifts and pans to impose momentum, all of which is unnecessary since there's more than enough going on in any one scene to hold our attention... isla s This is an intriguing mystery drama film. I enjoyed watching the two main characters try to out-do one another. The character of Michael was somewhat captivating at certain times and I definitely didn't envy the doctor trying to get inside Michael's mind and untangle the mess of what happened to Dr. Laurence. It reminded me, ever so slightly, of an episode of the British dark comedy show 'Inside No. 9'. There is a definite blue tinge to the lighting in this film, which I feel is to do with emphasising that the events that are depicted take part within a psychiatric hospital or facility. I also noticed the presence of tinsel and Christmas trees in some rooms, which gives it a strange contrast - the cold looking walls, the knowledge its set in a psychiatric facility, yet during a time in which people are meant to be together with friends and families, safe and well. The incidental music played in the background of some scenes is also somewhat chilling and didn't feel too over-done or forced. Unsurprisingly, yes, I would recommend this film to others, although it did leave me with one or two unanswered questions. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Although the scripts of the film can be a big long but well structured and connected! Have we ever felt trapped in our own moral and had no escape? Xavier is just too good looking to draw our mind into his lie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member very sad. Makes you feel how lives get twisted Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie had potential. I love a good psychological thriller. Its true that people with mental health issues "play" those of us who sincerely wish to help them. That said, the relationship between Dr. Greene, Olivia and Amy was utterly extraneous and confusing. He tells Amy, while Olivia is cooking, that her "aunt Olivia makes the best fried eggs in the whole world." Is Amy his then? Is Olivia her Aunt? Her mother? Later, he tells Michael that Amy is his niece. If Olivia is his new wife, Amy is older than the three years since he was with Susan Peterson. Also, Olivia wears a ring on her right hand, not her left. Is this a Canadian thing like in Europe, or is she not married? If Olivia is his sister, how could his ex-wife Susan not know her? Extraneous and confusing! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member requires patience, but is, ultimately rewarding. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie gears up more, more and then falls flat in the dull not very exciting ending. Acting from Dolan is great but the story could have been better. Not great Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
