Peter Bradshaw Guardian It is not the same as the 1997 touring documentary, Tantrums and Tiaras, directed by Furnish, which gave a sharper view of Elton John’s temper and the nervous energy of his creativity. But there is, as ever, pleasure and awe in hearing his great songs. Rated: 3/5 Dec 13, 2024 Full Review Matt Zoller Seitz RogerEbert.com Less a complete statement than an assortment of loosely grouped notions and materials, held together by the subject's incandescent music and the quiet forcefulness of his personality. Rated: 2.5/4 Nov 16, 2024 Full Review Steve Pond TheWrap The movie celebrates Elton John. Oct 15, 2024 Full Review Dónal Lynch Sunday Independent (Ireland) To succeed this film would have needed a new reveal about Elton’s life, a bit more of the rare live clips in long form or a few more flashes of that famous petulance to offset the airless control of the whole project. Dec 17, 2024 Full Review Christopher Campbell Nonfics If you’re a huge Elton John fan, this film will be worth watching, but anyone else is going to find it too basic and too much. Dec 13, 2024 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Elton John: Never Too Late leaves fans wanting more but the documentary gives audiences an intimate look into the highs and lows of his early life and career. Tom B Fascinating bio pic of Sir Elton John. As a child of the late 60s & 70s, I enjoyed this immensely. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/18/24 Full Review Janet Love anything Elton John - It met all my expectations Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/18/24 Full Review Les N Interesting if a little self indulgent. Everybody has problems....everybody! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/20/24 Full Review Audience Member Another arrogant rich elite Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/17/24 Full Review Helgi B The first years of Elton's career are decently documented. But in this film it seems Elton just disappeared in the late 1970's and didn't reappear until a few years ago. So for forty or fifty years he simply did not exist?! There is no mention of his rehab, of his comeback in the 1980's, of his marriage to Renate Blauel, of his success writing songs for The Lion King, of his knighthood, of his second comeback with the album "Songs From The West Coast", of his collaborations with other artists (except John Lennon)... and so on, which makes this documentary flawed, to say the least. His husband, David Furnish, is one of the producers; perhaps that explains a lot! Furthermore, his bandmates, Nigel Olsson, Davey Johnstone and Dee Murray, don't get the credit they deserve. I'm sorry, but this is not an honest biography. I hope someone will have the guts to tell the whole of Elton's story - not just the saleable parts of it.
