Robert Abele Los Angeles Times "Emanuel" achieves a rich solemnity in honoring lives ripped away too soon and often quickly forgotten by a public all too often redirected by the news cycle toward another mass shooting. Oct 18, 2019 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com A deeply religious film. Rated: 3/4 Oct 11, 2019 Full Review Monica Castillo TheWrap It is a tribute to those who lost loved ones, but it's also a movie with a message, one that emphasizes some survivors and family members' willingness to forgive Roof just mere days after he walked into their church. Oct 11, 2019 Full Review Hosea Rupprecht Catholic News Service While the movie does chronicle the happenings of that tragic day and the days that followed, it ultimately gives hope - hope that our world can be transformed, one act of love at a time, into a place of peace for everyone. Aug 12, 2021 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com An immersive experience. Rated: 3.5/4.0 Sep 7, 2020 Full Review Mark Dujsik Mark Reviews Movies [T]he film is a vital testimony of grief and horror, yes, but also of love and forgiveness. Jill Amazing documentary of a horrible occurrence. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/17/19 Full Review Nicole S To see all the news cast concerning this event in relationship to other racially charged event shows how strong, forgiving, loving Black America’s really are. I am upset that Emanuel did not get more days for the movie to be shown and more times. Most working individuals are not going to the movie on Monday’s. Although, Wednesday is a universal Bible study night even fewer theaters were showing the movie that night. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/11/19 Full Review Loana M it touched my heart deeply. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/18/19 Full Review Jamila Beautiful depiction and a history lesson that is necessary. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/06/19 Full Review Kimberly H represented the church well Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/03/19 Full Review Phyllis M Emanuel was a difficult story told with simplistic faith, honesty and humanity. I had hoped to walk away moved and inspired by the faith of the survivors. The delivery of their stories was dry...perhaps soft background music would have given the stories more life. Perhaps seeing the news scenes near the beginning only would have made the stories more effective and heartwarming, throughout the film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/29/19 Full Review Read all reviews
