It is a tribute to those who lost loved ones, but it's also a movie with a message, one that emphasizes some survivors and family members' willingness to forgive Roof just mere days after he walked into their church.

To see all the news cast concerning this event in relationship to other racially charged event shows how strong, forgiving, loving Black America’s really are. I am upset that Emanuel did not get more days for the movie to be shown and more times. Most working individuals are not going to the movie on Monday’s. Although, Wednesday is a universal Bible study night even fewer theaters were showing the movie that night.

Emanuel was a difficult story told with simplistic faith, honesty and humanity. I had hoped to walk away moved and inspired by the faith of the survivors. The delivery of their stories was dry...perhaps soft background music would have given the stories more life. Perhaps seeing the news scenes near the beginning only would have made the stories more effective and heartwarming, throughout the film.
