Adam Lippe Examiner.com De Heer manages to sneak in some rather audacious visual tricks that often highlight his obsessions with the evils of industrialization. Shotshot S The camerawork alone, in the most climactic portion of this badass film is reason alone to watch more than once. No idea why it's poorly reviewed but more should see it - for sure. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/24 Full Review Audience Member Disappointing Ozploitation about alien abductions in the outback. This time it's not "Dingoes ate my baby." but aliens. There is a colorful group of Australians living in the outback who see lots of mysterious lights and such, but it's all pretty much to no great effect. Directed by Rolf de Heer, who does have a cult following, though I haven't actually seen any of this other films. I remember seeing this film in the video store back in the day and was hoping it would be someone along the lines of "The Road Warrior" and being quite disappointed. Overall, it's not a terrible film, but it's not all that good either. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Encounter at Raven's Gate is underwhelming and feels somewhat desultory. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member An Ozploitation film that combines elements of MAD MAX post-apocalyptica, POLTERGEIST's supernatural elements making everyone go mad, and borrows much more than just the name of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND. The film is mildly interesting in cult status only and has a decent chance of being buried into oblivion once the 1980s generation dies out. Too many bad Hollywood wanna-be effects and typical cliches should dissuade most from watching this nearly incomprehensible mess. Very few inspired instances can be found and they do exist so it gets more than a garbage rating, but just barely. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Emotionally messy plot, Aliens driving everyone crazy. Unlikable characters. The good guy gets it in the neck and there's a government cover up. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Weird atmosphere and good rock music.
