Though he considers himself a bust, playwright and screenwriter Paul (David Paymer) is drawing lots of attention from the creative community. Theatrical producer Carla (Rosalind Chao) wants to mount a production of one of Paul's scripts, and documentarian Sam's (Judge Reinhold) latest project will focus on Paul's career. Because his last play bombed, Paul is gun-shy about returning to the theater. He'd rather devote his time to romancing Carla, but that just might not be in the cards.

Kevin Thomas Los Angeles Times An all too apt title for a would-be comedy in which everyone in it and everything about it seems willfully designed to be unfunny. Rated: 1/5 Jul 31, 2003 Full Review Christopher Null Filmcritic.com If Paymer and Chao had any chemistry together we might be more interested in their budding romance Rated: 2.5/5 Jun 26, 2004 Full Review Eric Campos Film Threat Pretty ballsy of the filmmakers to go with the title "Enemies of Laughter," seeing that it's a comedy. Rated: 3/5 Aug 29, 2003 Full Review Film Threat Rated: 3/5 Aug 12, 2003 Full Review Brent Simon Entertainment Today A small, delightful indie flick with a singular voice and spry wit. Rarely is a title so willfully far from accurate. Rated: B+ Aug 5, 2003 Full Review E! Staff E! Online This slow, stilted comedy just sits there and whines... kind of like its lead.
