Like a surly teen pilot, you, too, might find yourself bored and muttering, "Honestly, maybe the fate of humanity and the world isn't important to me, either.'' Go to Full Review

Sets the stage for new, apocalyptic changes in the next "Rebuild" feature, and they appear to be the kind of changes fans have been waiting on for years. Go to Full Review

It's strictly for the fans, who will furiously parse the changes in the narrative (including a new female pilot) and the nonsensical stew of philosophical and religious symbolism. Go to Full Review

Not only is the animation enormously superior in this second film, with good advantage taken of computer-generated effects, the story clearly begins to twist in its own direction. Go to Full Review

It is a fever dream for sure, but one that has been lovingly embellished with details and technically polished until it has become its own weird-yet-beautiful thing. Go to Full Review

Lisen M @RT13134204 13h This movie was straight up buns. Hot garbage. I loved the 1997 anime series and had high expectations for the rebuilds. However, I have never been so disappointed with a piece of media in my life. I have been a diehard fnaf fan since I was 11, and not even the fnaf movies (which sucked) disappointed me this much. This movie does not have a single scene of emotional impact. The story is all over the place, not one character has any sense of agency. The complexity of every character is stripped from them, turning Shinji into a love interest for EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER, MAKE AND FEMALE, ADULT AND CHILD. He isn’t even depressed in this movie bruh, that’s not Shinji. AND WHO THE FUCK MARI EXCEPT FOR GOONER BAIT??? All she does is trash Eva 02, she isn’t even permitted and everyone is just ok with her launching Eva 02??? WHAT???? And to top it all off, THEY JUST START THE THIRD IMPACT??? GENDOU DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO DO ANYTHING??? SHINJU JUST STARTS IT?? This movie was NOT worth my time. Pretty good action sequences and good animation with also good story 🍿🍿🍿🍿/5 on Prime See more Drew M. @Stonehands211 Feb 10 My favorite Evangelion yet. Extremely cinematic and emotionally rich. See more David C. @DavidsReviews Dec 27 Hate the self insert (Marian) but the rest is fun and entertaining. See more kish b @RT00429023 Nov 17 ★★★★★ Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance is pure cinematic adrenaline, the moment the Rebuild series stopped being a remake and became something bolder, wilder, and infinitely more thrilling. From the very first scene (that jaw-dropping moon base battle with Mari dropping in like a comet), you know this isn’t the Evangelion you grew up with. Hideaki Anno and Studio Khara crank everything to eleven: the action sequences are some of the most spectacular ever put on film (the Zeruel fight and the Tenth Angel descent are still unmatched in scale and fluidity), the character redesigns are gorgeous, and the new soundtrack absolutely slaps. But what truly elevates 2.22 into masterpiece territory is how it deepens the emotional core while delivering blockbuster energy. Shinji’s desperate, heartbreaking attempt to save Rei in the final act isn’t just heroic; it’s devastating. The "I’m home" / "Welcome home" moment between him and Misato hits harder than ever. Asuka’s arrival shakes up the entire dynamic, and Mari adds a chaotic spark that keeps you guessing. By the time those final minutes roll around and the screen fades to white with that gut-wrenching piano note, you’re left speechless, exhilarated, and terrified of what’s coming next. Visually stunning, emotionally raw, and narratively fearless, Evangelion: 2.22 is the peak of action-driven anime and the film that proved the Rebuilds could surpass the original in every way. Still the best-looking animated movie I’ve ever seen. 10/10 without hesitation. See more Read all reviews
