You know, I finished this movie a little over an hour ago. The last time I reviewed, or started to review, a movie shortly after finishing it was for a movie that I thought was terrible (Don't Cry Mommy, I believe it was called). This isn't terrible, per se, but it's a movie that I was considering not reviewing at all. That might be a condemnation of the film, but it really isn't. The reason that I was considering not actually reviewing this is simply because of the fact that I never got a good grasp of the film. The narrative, at its most basic level, is easy to follow. Twin sisters fall into this river, one of them drowns. The one that lives is in a coma for 10 years. When she finally comes to, strange events start occurring that result in the death of several people. Taking place in such a small village, rumors, inevitably, start to take shape. They start blaming the twin that just came out of the coma and paranoia starts to build upon the villagers. There's also a ridiculous romance subplot with the fact that the twin who drowned was gonna be married off to this other kid, they were like ten-years-old when this was arranged. So, after the one in the coma comes back, she takes the place of the dead twin in being married to this guy. But this guy, at first, isn't having any of this shit since he's marrying someone that, really, he doesn't know. It's stupid and it serves no purpose whatsoever other than to fill up time. The film, being called the Evil Twin, does the most predictable thing that is humanly possible. If you guessed that the twin, that just came out of the coma, now has amnesia and can't remember absolutely anything of what led to her being in the coma in the first place then you should give yourself a cookie. That way, they can use that amnesia to try to give some intrigue as to who actually is the Evil Twin after all. I mean, they make an effort to give life to what is, essentially, another in a long line of storied horror subgenre featuring long-haired, creepy Asian ghost women. To be honest, there's nothing even remotely scary about this movie. It's all kind of lame to be honest. The only cool scene, that I can recall, was the sesame seed scene because of how grotesque it actually looked, despite not being super bloody or violent. The visual was cool. And that's about it. Ok, now with all of that out of the way, the reason why I didn't wanna review this movie in the first place was because of how awful the subtitles were. They movie was so poorly subtitled that it was honestly really difficult to get into the movie because of it. I'd just become distracted by how bad they were and just completely ignore what they were saying. Which meant that you were ignoring the narrative. I mean, I still got enough of a sense of what was going on to keep track of it all, but I didn't care about anything that happened. Another minor problem with the subtitles is that sometimes they went by too fast and you couldn't even read what was said. That's minor, but it is a complaint nonetheless. Another problem is that the characters are absolutely insufferable. None of them are likable, so it's nigh impossible to care about them when the film tries its hand at a sentimental ending in its third act. There's no one character in the entire movie that has any likable traits. They're all insufferable people who treat those "below" them like garbage. How am I supposed to invest in horrible people like these? It's not like it's satire like Arrested Development, where the characters may be horrible people, but they embrace that and they run with it. They don't seek to make it an endearing aspect of their personality, it's just meant to highlight how out-of-touch with reality the Bluth family really was. In here? They're just assholes and there's no fun to be had. So, yea, I didn't enjoy this film at all. Shit subtitles, weak storytelling with no horror to speak of and unlikable characters. Yup, you can avoid this movie. You won't be missing out on anything.

I tend to prefer Asian horror movies over American horror for a number of reasons: the effects aren't overdone, there are generally less cheap jump-scares, and riveting story is seamlessly combined with gripping terror to create some profoundly unsettling and massively tense scenarios. Korean horror/thriller "The Evil Twin" unfortunately disappoints on several levels.

Paced movie with no twist at all, its predictable, if you have watched enough horror movies, but is not as bad as some critic say. If you are not in a good mood you will hate it. Watchable but not indispensable and definitely is forgettable.
