Anthony Kaufman Time Out Rated: 3/5 Nov 17, 2011 Full Review Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter Only intermittently effective despite its powerful subject matter. Mar 7, 2008 Full Review Owen Gleiberman Entertainment Weekly Rarely has the gulf between relevance of subject matter and ineptitude of execution been greater than it is in Ezra. Rated: C- Feb 20, 2008 Full Review Nora Lee Mandel Film-Forward.com Less a catalog of horrors than how a child soldier and his community can pick up the pieces after war, with fictionalized sentimentality, but powerful and passionate Rated: 8/10 Dec 23, 2008 Full Review John P. McCarthy Boxoffice Magazine Clear-eyed and without aiming for the emotional jugular, Ezra goes well beyond geography, politics and ethnicity... to explore the psychological toll on young people caught in violent situations not of their making and beyond their understanding. Audience Member This was the child-perspective version of the less-interesting part of Blood Diamond. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Harsh reality, sad movie, make me think a lot ! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Saw as part of SF International Film Festival. Offered a different and more "realistic" perspective from the big budget blockbusters. The exploitation of children and the power/politics/greed surrounding natural resources disgusted me. I liked the ending and was helpful that Director spoke at screening to put movie into context. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Didn't like Blood Diamond? Didn't even like the idea of Blood Diamond? This is probably the film for you. I highly recommend it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member A harsh depiction of child soldiers in Sierra Leone being taken away from their families and then taught to commit atrocities. The film offers no solutions (it isn't supposed to) but it certainly opens your eyes to the problem faced by the African authorites. When the credits rolled, there was silence in the cinema as the audience reflected on what they has just seen - pretty poignant.
