In 1944, despite declining health, Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Jason Robards) decides to run for a fourth presidential term while World War II begins to draw to a close. This account of his final year follows the president's involvement in D-Day planning and his meetings with Joseph Stalin (Nehemiah Persoff) and Winston Churchill (Wensley Pithey). His relationship with his wife, Eleanor (Eileen Heckart), is also explored, as well as his alleged liaison with Lucy Rutherfurd (Kim Hunter).
