What to Know

Critics Consensus

Tired and uninspired, Fear Street plays like an '80s retread of better slashers, while ensuring the winning crown does not go to this Prom Queen.

Becky Darke Empire Magazine This deeply disappointing new Fear Street instalment leans too hard into worn-out tropes and excessive gore, at the expense of fun, engaging characters or any genuine scares. Rated: 1/5 Jun 4, 2025 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com While the identity of the villain knocking off the prom queen candidates is obvious, the sheer uninhibited Road Runner meets Wile E. Coyote excitement of the climax remains delightfully infectious. Rated: 2.5/4 May 27, 2025 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety There’s a lot of limb-severing and such. But “Fear Street: Prom Queen” never rises above its pedestrian concept, which simply lifts cliches from standard slice-and-dice opuses...without ever figuring just how seriously it wants to take them. May 25, 2025 Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast Despite some committed performances, the lazy Fear Street: Prom Queen can't help but fall under the shadow of the original trilogy. Rated: 2.5/5 Jun 17, 2025 Full Review Aaron Neuwirth We Live Entertainment The mystery remains stagnant when it comes to the curiosity surrounding who could be responsible, and the movie’s look does it no favors either. For a slasher flick, this one wasn’t close to winning the crown. Rated: 3/10 Jun 13, 2025 Full Review Josh Winning Radio Times The result is an entertainingly lean and mean slasher that, while somewhat forgettable, is an engaging evocation of a bygone era. Khaliel P This fourth film in the franchise (adapting the 15th book) is a disappointment. After a solid first half, time starts to drag — and drag a lot. What could’ve been wrapped up in 45 minutes is painfully stretched to a never-ending 90. And all of it for a final reveal that’s deeply underwhelming. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/21/25 Full Review Michael W This horror movie was alright. India Fowler, Chris Klein, Katherine Waterston, Fina Strazza, Suzanna Son, and the rest of the cast did a decent job in this movie. The plot of the movie was bizarre and crazy. It's about a twisted plot of killing prom queen candidates. If you haven't seen this movie yet, don't waste your time. It's not worth it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/21/25 Full Review Courtney H None of the characters felt authentic enough to be believable. It's so disappointing compared to the original trilogy, but even on its own, there's just nothing interesting about it. The acting was decent by the main character and her best friend. That's all. It felt like they didn't even have fun with the 80s concept or really stay true to it? Just badly written and constructed and a waste of a couple really promising young talents. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/21/25 Full Review Fisher A It didn’t make much sence. The last ones I explain it a lot more this one was just a gory slasher film no back story Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/19/25 Full Review Kaitlynn R Great movie. Really enjoyed it. Some parts were very predictable but overall kept me and my fiance on our feet! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/19/25 Full Review Mark J Just a by the number slasher film with no real attempt to do anything different. Okay if that’s what you’re looking for.
