Jay W I will attempt to give a summation of the story this movie is trying to tell. Reid is a teenage twitch gamer. One day when he should be studying, his video game comes to life and he must stop the ensuing evil alien invasion. OK, so this can kind of be like "Jumanji" or something like that, game comes to life and starts havoc in the real world. Problem is the rules of this world make no sense. I don't think the writers, director or anyone involved in this movie have played a video game. Not only that, I don't think they know how a video game works. When the "video game" is going on, it plays out like it is a bad sci fi movie. But you never get the impression that the player is at any point controlling what the hero of the video game is doing. And this isn't some mystical video game he bought from some shady dealer; this is supposed to be the big popular video game all the twitch streamers are playing. With this game being mass produced, how many times is this alien invasion going to happen? It could be that the alien invasion happened by coincidence. That Reid happened to be playing a video game that perfectly mirrored what was going on in space with the same people at the same time. I would say try to ignore it and just go along with the show, but it is a problem that keeps coming up. The villain makes it seem like it is Reid's fault that the invasion happened in the first place, and I keep wondering "how?!" There are major plot points that involve having to get a twitch gamer to earn a power up for the hero in the real world. The more I try to wrap my head around the logic of this movie the less sense it makes. Oh, also there are 3 super powered babies that the main characters have to take care of. Not something shown on the poster, but the babies have way more screen time than the superhero. It is always a good thing for a movie, super powered babies. That's why everyone loved "Baby Genius 2: Super Babies". I realize you can't hear my tone, so I will tell you that was sarcasm. With the babies the heroes learn the power of friendship, teamwork and being yourself or whatever. Also, the title of this movie is @wful. This whole movie is terrible. The animation is meh, there may be some enjoyment to be had from laughing at it, but as a whole, game over, do not continue. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/01/24 Full Review Ingolf M Unfortunately bad (emotionless) German dubbing. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Every voice was great but will never watch because Susan Sarandon is a horrible actor and person Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member The voice acting in this movie is beyond awful. Hiring a bunch of people who don't know how to voice act was a bad call, it's kind of flabbergasting that they somehow scored Susan Sarandon for this. The premise isn't even remotely amusing. The animation itself feels cheap, the lip syncing is stiff, honestly Reboot from back in the 90s is better quality. I feel bad for anyone who has to work on this 'movie'. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Warning: Spoilers Vanguard has some of the worst movies ever released (with a few paltry exceptions)... why Netflix thought it was a good idea to 'recruit' them is beyond all rational thought. The animation is below subpar and lifeless with no use or knowledge of lighting/shadows and the backgrounds are terrible! EVERYTHING about this screams bland and juvenile, bad fat jokes delivered by even worse timing and acting. Yes, I realize that this is an animated film, but even children deserve standards. So, Reid is about everything you'd expect from stereotypical high school kid that plays video games ALL DAY- bumbling and awkwardly flippant. As for the girl, another stale and shallow role involving a kid too future-focused on grades and college and red lobster crabfest, as if a single bad "group/partner" assignment will bring a teachers' pet's perfect gpa crashing down - so long collegiate career- just so she can make a difference in the world. Additionally, WHO schedules TWO BATHROOM BREAKS an HOUR?? Does she have Crohn's or ibs? Maybe just cursed with a baby's bladder? She certainly has no maternal instincts, as she NEVER spends time with the babies. At least the government doesn't have a clipboard-toting, loud-mouth, hnic to make sure nothing goes wrong! Wait, I spoke too soon... maybe they should switch back to having a narcissistic general with a southern accent in charge! The only bearable figures here are the characters that have zero speaking parts. Nonetheless, despite the danskin-wear, the babies are still only borderline endearing... AND WILL SOMEONE FEED THEM ALREADY??!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member "Video game of Sham Buzz Lightyear and his Super-genius babies." The movie is fin-less rather than fearless. Some people might enjoy this video game flick but if you follow movies you will easily be able to find out this forged plot with many other movies. The characters do not have that enthusiasm to even become iconic, there aren't any memorable moments in the movie. The dialogues could have been improvised. The animation is alright neither much complex nor anything notable to point out. The choice of music in the action fight scene is very annoying. Consider this on the grounds that is a family film other than that it's actually a time squandering film. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
