Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times [A]n undeniably heartfelt if overlong affair, especially for the uninitiated. Oct 25, 2019 Full Review Chris Willman Variety Even filmgoers with little taste for these arcane sounds may enjoy the doc, if only for the chance to spend an hour and a half in the company of so many prodigies who've put down their phones in the service of taking up catgut. Oct 17, 2019 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com While Fiddlin' is definitely a feel-good film, Simone isn't afraid to take the film in serious directions. Rated: 3.5/4.0 Aug 31, 2020 Full Review Danny Jin Christian Science Monitor Fiddlin', though not a work of history, is lively, with its share of touching moments. It should be entertaining enough for most Americana fans, and offers a glimpse of how Appalachia grounds its identity in its music. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 2, 2020 Full Review Hunter Lanier Film Threat Fiddlin' still throws together some great footage of live folk music, as well as some hope that new generations will continue to see its value as a method of expression. Audience Member An exceptional, feel-good, informational, and exciting piece of art. A must-see to understand the cultural history of music in the United States. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Such a great film!!! Highly recommend! Full of great music and genuine, authentic people. Laughed, cried and was dancing in my seat! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautiful film! I normally don't like documentaries but this has me engaged the whole time. The music is amazing and i loved all of the characters and their stories. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a monumental tribute to good music! I was moved to tears several times as well as laughter. My only quibble is that the filmmakers used the "putty-knife" approach much too often - that is, they "slathered" old material over new, often retreating to a former setup and adding another few seconds of a performer talking or singing or whatever. They also didn't know when to bring the film to a close. Their inexperience showed because, faced with an embarrassment of riches, they opted for MORE when a deft implementation of LESS would have made the film more tolerable. Still and all - go see it! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Susie B. Fiddlin' is an uplifting, joyful look at true Americana. It is a beautiful glimpse into a a community steeped in tradition and the willingness of all to pass the tradition on to younger neighbors. The filming is exceptional and the highlighted musicians and dancers are truly unforgettable. This is a film that all Americans need to see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/26/19 Full Review Squirrelly Enjoyed this movie as much if not more than any Oscar winning film I've seen in a long time! Uplifting, entertaining and heartfelt!
