Critics Consensus

Despite a panel of X-Files' alums at the helm and a promising premise, flighty performances and poor execution keep Final Destination from ever taking off.

Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Akos Peterbencze The Screen [James] Wong fills the finest moments of his flick with the kind of self-aware suspense that you know is contrived and insincere but can’t wait to see how it builds to a grisly and blood-soaked climax. cinema f “Death is the Final Destination, Boarding Starts Now!” Now I’m scared to go on a plane. The whole storyline is interesting and a great franchise for horror. 5/5 stars. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/26/24 Full Review Mike P Not a terrible horror movie. A bunch of kids miraculously survive a brutal plane crash; and then Death and Destiny seems to be coming after them later; since they cheated Death before...Adam Stein, the director, should have reigned himself in a little; it's almost comically melodramatic sometimes. A little more nuance and subtlety, and ambiguity, would have helped. Also teenagers who aren't such a bunch of Animal House-Deadhead stereotypes. And the composer over does it with the Psycho background music...But there's still some cool ideas and set pieces nestled in there; and some good suspense. Supposedly it was inspired by an X Files script; and you can see that influence; that and The Twilight Zone; with all it's twisty stories about fate and destiny. The kill scenes are very similar to the Rube Goldberg type death scenes in The Omen. I'd recommend this for horror aficionados; and horror completists; since it's considered a classic in slasher fan circles. So not a great movie; but interesting in parts. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/08/24 Full Review Char T Full of suspense, makes you grip the edge of your seat and surprises are thrown in throughout. Worth a watch! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/27/24 Full Review Gianvito A Very enjoyable i had a lot of fun Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/18/24 Full Review Audience Member It’s not a bad movie. The visions and deaths are great and make a hallmark of the series because of how graphic and violent they were. However, the forgettable scenes of nonsense dialogue that doesn’t need to be dragged on make this boring for some viewers. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/28/24 Full Review Ethan G While it's hardly anything more than another gory 'Scream'-inspired teen slasher, it's also a genuinely fun, fast paced thriller with some memorable characters and kills.
