Critics Consensus

Despite a panel of X-Files' alums at the helm and a promising premise, flighty performances and poor execution keep Final Destination from ever taking off.

Blu B A 2000's Horror Classic. What sets this one apart from all the others is the lack of self awareness and humor. This takes itself super serious the entire way and has a mystery element to it that the other entries just don't have. It does a good job just posing lots of underlying ideas about death and life in a sense too. Problem is it doesn't know how to fully flesh those ideas out but it does come through here more so than any of the others. The music is really good here and so unsettling and used well. It's actually got really good editing too. I can really point to too many deaths besides the teacher perhaps who could've been cut out. They all add something and are pretty variedd and memorable. I like how some are very prolonged and set up like Goldberg puzzles and others just come on in a insta edit. But really none of them are what I'd call pointless either. At the end of the day this is a slasher with a really clever twist of no masked killer but Death itself. It's such a clever and interesting idea. Everything else is pretty solid here honestly. The direction is pretty good actually. The weakest part is outside of Alex and Claire none of the other characters are really fleshed out. But there really isn't much attempt to either. They all do a good job but none of the performances are DiCaprio try hard level of course but I was suprised I actually did end up liking Alex. And even Tony Todd's scene is just pure expose but it's done so well it's probably my favorite part even though on paper it's lazy. But that sums up this film why it works is the execution is good. The second half does get a little over the top and when adding more of the other characters it ends up not ebing as interesting and becomes more a slasher. The first half is stronger just because it explores the ideas and is more errie and unsettling than a carnage fest. Regardless, it's a good slasher and 00's horror flick. I have to say I prefer it just slightly over Bloodlines in terms of the best one. Just because it takes itself more serious and explores the ideas better and the soundtrack. (And Alex too) Anyone who is a fan of slashers, the director, any actors in this, the franchise, or or late 90's-early 00's horror should check this out. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/10/25 Full Review Alexander S Final Destination stands out as a horror film of the 2000s with its intriguing premise, but its impact is lessened by the era's typical portrayal of foolish teenagers. Grading: C+ Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/09/25 Full Review Jason H Ali Larter is a terrible actress. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/02/25 Full Review Mourning K Good movie. This movie is a fun and gory film. The way the deaths happen are realistic and fun. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/30/25 Full Review Rafael A It's very repeteitive. It's original, but it's not good. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/01/25 Full Review Pedro Henrique C Final Destination is a very interesting and challenging film, the plot is quite fast at times but this is compensated by the very creative and crazy death scenes.
