Tan C @TanZoi Jan 7 As a Western, its genre language is unmistakably clear: cold, hard, swift, and stylized distanced. The emotions and atmosphere are established quickly and maintained steadily.Still, although the film successfully pulled me along emotionally, I was never able to fully immerse myself. Its plot abandons complexity in favor of simplicity, resulting in a story with a clear overall structure and largely self-consistent logic. However, I feel that the film relies heavily on repetition and rhythmic construction to push the narrative forward. The protagonist has a strong symbolic qualities. The characters function more as carriers of "narrative purpose" than as emotional guides. The storytelling does not really delve deeper into the characters—but since the film prioritizes rhythm and atmosphere, more simple the characters and story more better. Additionally, the film’s score is extremely recognizable—especially the whistled theme, which I even taught myself to play. Literally made for a fistful of dollars, but making $20 million at the box office, paving way for three other strokes of genius from Sergio Leone, but also for actor Clint Eastwood, who fortunately got the part because Henry Fonda and James Coburn were too costly, while Charles Bronson and Richard Harrison turned it down.
