Variety Staff Variety An attempt at an intimate personal drama that just doesn't come off. Nov 1, 2007 Full Review Time Out A film which creates drama more out of gesture and nuance than dialogue, and employs a lush setting which overwhelms instead of pointing up the characters' emotions. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Janet Maslin New York Times This isn't a movie anyone would mind, but it isn't one anyone would feel terribly touched by, either. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 30, 2004 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews The climbing scenes, which are well choreographed, take over the narrative. Rated: B Dec 14, 2022 Full Review Diego Galán El Pais (Spain) Everything that appears onscreen fails to elicit emotion, and the ending is gratuitous. [Full Review in Spanish] Aug 29, 2019 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Too bad that the Oscar-winning Fred Zinnemann (From Here to Eternity) ended his career with such a disappointing period romance, one that even Sean Connery (in his post-Bond era) can't help. Toni A The captivating scenery and the suspenseful rock-climbing sequences maintain the viewer’s engagement throughout the film. The performances are commendable, making ‘Five Days One Summer’ a film worth watching. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/24 Full Review stuart s Good movie great scenery. The Swiss Alps. Sean Connery. It's not a James Bond movie but good nontheless. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review sue o I was disappointed in the lack of focus on the relationship between Kate and her uncle. We should have seen what brought on this strange love affair between these two. There was too much mountain climbing and too little emphasis on the character development. Could have been a compelling movie . Sadly, it disappointed me and I am sure Sean Connery was sorry he ever accepted the script. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review william k Psychological melodrama goes a bit far combining the story of a complex and dubious love relationship with the thrills of dangerous mountaineering, but is mildly entertaining, if you can bear it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I thought this was a good movie despite it being so panned by the critics. I believe critics are subject to industry group-think, since their profession (if you can call it that) is at risk and scrutiny if they stray from what their industry counterparts rate. The plot is somewhat flat but no worse than standard dramatic Hollywood fare. However, this film contains some of the best mountain climbing scenes ever committed to film. They are real, underrated and accurately portray Alpine climbing techniques and equipment of the 1930s. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Although it is a bit slow moving, it has rewarding aspects. The cinematography is grand, fine score and it is very well produced. It also is boosted by the presence of Sean Connery. The location shooting in Switzerland is also a plus. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
