Doug C I listened to the audiobook and found the writing unique and story very intriguing and thought provoking. I struggled to get through the first 10 minutes of this garbage before turning it off. Modine's "acting" is so horrendous it made me cringe. The directing was awful as well. I'm assuming this was a made for tv movie? Felt very rushed and completely out of touch with the subject matter at hand. If there is a stereotypical trope about MR people you'd expect from someone who really knows nothing about them to roll out, they did it in the first 10 minutes. Example, the doctor tells Charlie to close his eyes. Charlie closes his eyes and says, "it's dark." As if the man had never closed his eyes before?!?! That wasn't in the book and that's when I had enough. Great book. Horrible movie. They had some similarities. It was good for what it was. I would give it a 7/10. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review bill t I knew this was going to be good, had a gut feeling. Heck, it's better than Charly for pete's sakes. I liked what they did with the Flowers For Algernon story, went quite quckly to the operation (they didn't in Charly), wasn't too thrilled about the draggativity (I made up a word) of the second half though. Still, the movie put some new ideas into the story. I did like the Frankenstein references. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I really didn't like the movie or the book but if i can choose one it will be the book because that i like a little bit. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member It was an okay movie but it is not better than the book. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/21/16 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

John Leonard New York Magazine/Vulture Why anyone thought we really needed another adaptation of Flowers for Algernon is one of those imponderables of network Vulcan mind-meld. Feb 6, 2018 Full Review Christie Cronan Common Sense Media While Modine's portrayal of Charlie is believable, this adaptation hasn't aged well, especially when compared to the source material.
