Legendary Walt Disney animators Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston helped create the studio's signature style. In this documentary, the pair look back on their pioneering work on such children's classics as "Lady and the Tramp," "Bambi" and "Pinocchio." Over their decades-long careers, Frank and Ollie remained not only close collaborators but inseparable friends; that's clear enough as the duo fondly recall their time together bringing drawings to life.

Dale R This is a documentary about the lives of Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, who were character animators for Disney. This is a series of interviews of Frank and Ollie, along with their wives and animators that they influenced. This documentary is right up my alley, as I love to learn more about how animation works and hearing Frank and Ollie’s perspective on Walt was really cool as well. There was also some interesting story telling about the thought process of creating a scene from just the dialogue on the page or recordings of voice actors. If this seems up your alley too, then check this movie out. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed this documentary as we get a look into the lives of Frank Thomas & Ollie Johnson who were some of the early animators at Disney studios who worked alongside Walt when creating such classics as Snow White or Lady & the Tramp. Saw on Disney + Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review spencer p Two of the surviving nine old men shed light on their work process, at a lighter tone than they probably should have. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Frank & Ollie (1995) Film A very interesting perspective on some of the artists working at Disney who worked closely with Walt Disney but also shows clips of the contributions they had on Disney animation in the 1930’s-1970’s. It was interesting seeing what aspects they liked to focus on and focus on facial and body expressions. I did not realize how some of the artists created a music band or had helped to inspire and contribute ideas to Walt Disney on a full scale size train. I liked hearing the stories. Seeing how things were done to make Disney animation get made. It was interesting hearing how the world was prior to animation in film or before Disney. It was interesting hearing how Disney was one of the few jobs available for many to work at during the Great Depression and how the school education that existed for artists was minimal or nonexistent in the beginning when it came to animation since film animation was such a new concept. It is a hard concept to believe or imagine today since it existed for so long. It has funny and emotional parts which I found enjoyable. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/20 Full Review Read all reviews
