Andrew Barker Variety Brad Coley's slow-paced thriller has a decent cast, but can't draw the viewer into its convoluted, overstuffed mystery. Jul 24, 2015 Full Review Martin Tsai Los Angeles Times A complex, engrossing mystery that holds up in repeated viewings. Jul 23, 2015 Full Review Helen T. Verongos New York Times Complex and possessed of an otherworldly serenity, Frank gets too little screen time; developing his character further might have redeemed this movie. Jul 23, 2015 Full Review MaryAnn Johanson Flick Filosopher [L]ike a would-be supernatural thriller that forgot the magic and the chills. Overlong, overcomplicated, and yet undernourished. Or undernoirish. Nov 1, 2020 Full Review Matt Donato We Got This Covered Don't let its title fool you - Frank The Bastard is a dull, sluggish watch that's as exciting as visiting Maine is in real life. Rated: 4/10 Jul 31, 2015 Full Review MaryAnn Johanson Flick Filosopher Dreary New England noir soap about a woman uncovering family secrets is like a would-be supernatural thriller that forgot the magic and the chills. Audience Member No need to travel to Maine when I can watch Frank the Bastard. Captures small town mentality. Cast is great. Faces in close with gothic lighting create brilliant portraits. Love the age range from very old to even older auntie. Lots of good dialogue too. The fire mystery is at the center and who started it. Will we ever know? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member I thought it was very interesting and much better than much of the films I slog through on a regular basis. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Contrary to its title, Frank the Bastard is a plot-driven thriller, thick with ambiguities but slow in their unravelling. Characters are muddy and poorly developed. Despite its social and ecological undercurrents, it fails to leave strong impressions. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews
