J N Kudo's for the following: - Jeff's immortal-tier athleticism. - The work the team put into documenting a FKT (music, shots, interviews). I don't want to sell those parts of this film short. I'm a former thru-hiker. I agree, this type of hiking is unforgiving. I have done plenty of b*tching myself while long-distance hiking in Colorado. But this was miserable to watch. I made it halfway through this and bailed. The bulk of this film's content is complaining. Not enough sleep. Clif Bars are gross. I don't feel good. From the moment he looks up from his phone in his hotel until the 40-minute mark, where you watch a close-up of him popping a blister, all you can hear is misery in his voice. I understand what he did was brutal. He was trying to set a record, not have a good time. I'm not trying to invalidate that, nor Jeff for not faking a smile when he wasn't enjoying it. The goal here was to film an FKT for the first time - mission accomplished (maybe, I didn't see the end). But that's all they did. When exploring what other people are doing on film between adventures of my own, this didn't scratch the inspirational itch of wanting to get out there. With beautiful shots of the terrain, chill guitar during B-roll, and conversations among friends/producers, some films capture the magic of an experience like thru-hiking.
