Audience Member Full of cliches, ropey acting and a simplistic script, what is worse is that it also feels like a bunch of middle class actors trying to convince us they are from the 'streets'. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member It was like Step Up but with a basketball. It was okay, it passed the time. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Good basketball romance film. Freestyle competion of basketball tricks. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member I am a sucker for London boys. Love the accent. Plus got a lil bit of b-ball action but mostly doing tricks with the actually ball itself. There's a brief but noticable dark skin vs light skin commentary. -Why! Why! them lightskinned sistas (mostly them ounce of black ones) got to take all the good brothas. Overall its a decent watch and its a love story and did I mention I love romance. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member The story the dances if they can called like that are utter nonsense or in shorter words crap. what a bogus movie I can't believe they actually said or called it the "British Step Up" Well then I'll go british on this Bollocks!! A romance set in the world of freestyle basketball. 17-year-old Ondene is beautiful, talented, and all set to study law at Oxford if her domineering mother, Hyacinth, has anything to do with it. When she falls for Leon a charming and charismatic freestyle basketball player, whose rough council estate background is worlds away from Ondenes posh private school he teaches her how to freestyle and persuades her to enter a local competition. Leon dreams of going to university, and the £15,000 prize money will be his passport to a new life When Hyacinth finds out about Ondene and Leon, she forbids them from seeing each other. With the freestyle finals looming, not to mention her A-level exams, Ondene has to make some tough decisions about her family, education, and the man she loves Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Anna Smith Empire Magazine Apart from Arinze Kene, the male lead, the stilted performances here, are enough to put anyone off. Rated: 2/5 Feb 26, 2010 Full Review David Jenkins Time Out Shabbily filmed and poorly acted, its lone positive is a compellingly awful turn by Alfie (brother of Lily) Allen, whose bumbling, velour-tracksuited date-rapist is the sleaziest thing you(TM)ll see this year. Rated: 1/5 Feb 26, 2010 Full Review Wendy Ide Times (UK) Freestyle is a string of flashily edited musical montages of East London youth playing basketball, hung on the flimsy framework of a sub-Grange-Hill-quality script. Rated: 1/5 Feb 26, 2010 Full Review Elliott Noble Sky Cinema Although the acting is generally closer to Grange Hill than Drury Lane, Kene shows bags of potential. Rated: 2/5 Feb 26, 2010 Full Review Tom Dawson Total Film Admittedly, the characters are schematically drawn, but there's real chemistry between the freestyling leads and, refreshingly given the milieu, there's not a gun in sight. Rated: 3/5 Feb 26, 2010 Full Review Stella Papamichael Radio Times otal fluff and nonsense - though director Kolton Lee does demonstrate visual flair on a low budget - this is also disingenuous and patronising.
