Tara Brady Irish Times Comically twisting the source genre away from the concept of the Final Girl, Fresh celebrates female camaraderie, resourcefulness, and good humour in the face of monstrous behaviour. Rated: 4/5 Mar 18, 2022 Full Review Sophie Butcher Empire Magazine It’s as subtle as a sledgehammer, but Fresh’s audacious storytelling, full-throated performances and accomplished direction make for a tasty, wildly entertaining concoction. Rated: 4/5 Mar 18, 2022 Full Review Richard Lawson Vanity Fair As a statement of intent from two emerging filmmakers -- this is Kahn’s second feature script -- Fresh makes a potent impression. It’s stylish and smart where it counts, even if it occasionally veers into the unnecessarily didactic. Mar 17, 2022 Full Review Michael Cook Geek Vibes Nation The combination of a sharp script, playful visuals, and killer performances creates an experience unlike many others. It’s a horror movie, a pitch-black comedy, and a rip-roaringly fun time. Rated: 4/5 Jul 17, 2025 Full Review Brittany Patrice Witherspoon Pop Culture Reviews Daisy and Sebastian were able to shine in their depictions of strangers-to-lovers – delivering chilling scenes through their intoxicating relationship and bringing a sense of vulnerability and poise to their roles, respectively. Rated: 3/5 Jul 15, 2024 Full Review Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers “Fresh” is a stylish, uncompromising, and surprisingly artistic depiction of endemic exploitation, the ubiquity of toxic masculinity, and perseverance. TheMovieSearch R Fresh, which premiered on Hulu, immediately positions itself as one of those bold, boundary-pushing streaming originals designed to grab attention. The platform has developed a reputation for hosting darker, edgier thrillers, and this film fits squarely within that trend. Its unsettling premise and sharp tonal shifts make it a standout among Hulu’s more provocative offerings, though not always for the right reasons. Sebastian Stan delivers one of his most chilling performances as a seemingly charming doctor whose true intentions are far more sinister. His portrayal is disturbingly controlled, blending charisma with cruelty in a way that makes every scene he’s in feel unpredictable. The film’s concept—women being kidnapped and harvested for their body parts while kept alive—relies heavily on Stan’s ability to balance horror with an unnerving calm, and he rises to the challenge with remarkable intensity. The screenplay, however, struggles to support the strength of his performance. The film takes an unusually long time to find its footing, dragging through a slow and meandering opening that doesn’t justify the wait. By the time the central conflict fully emerges, the pacing has already risked losing audience engagement. For many viewers, the temptation to turn it off before the story unfolds will likely be strong. This uneven structure highlights how crucial a strong beginning is to a story like this. A film can have a gripping middle and a compelling ending, but without a well-constructed start, the narrative struggles to maintain momentum. Fresh exemplifies this issue, as its late-blooming strengths never fully compensate for its sluggish first act. The direction often feels uncertain during these early stretches, as though the filmmaker hadn’t yet settled on the tonal balance the story required. Once the film finally finds its rhythm, the direction tightens, the tension builds, and the execution becomes far more effective. The latter half delivers the psychological and physical horror the premise promises, and it’s clear that the creative team eventually tapped into a more confident and cohesive vision. Unfortunately, the inconsistency between its halves keeps the film from realizing its full potential. Despite its flaws, Fresh is still worth watching for those who appreciate unconventional thrillers and standout performances. The film’s final stretch delivers enough payoff to justify the experience—though viewers may find it beneficial to fast-forward through the first 10 to 15 minutes. With sharper pacing and a stronger opening, this could have been a truly exceptional entry in the modern horror-thriller genre. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/29/25 Full Review Johnny S Equal parts amusing and disturbing, "Fresh" will have you thinking about what you watched hours after the film ends. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/14/25 Full Review Kelly N Not bad for a slow burn. Sebastian Stan was excellent as the bad guy. Nice that he shows range from the superhero bit. Definitely not for everyone but I enjoyed it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/04/25 Full Review T. Scott S Good, fun, dark comedy right up until the final act when it turns the IQ down, disregards its own reality, and cannibalizes itself. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/02/25 Full Review Regina R No. The only reason I finished this movie was that I made the mistake of telling friends about it right before our movie night. I hated this movie from about half an hour in straight through to the end. It’s gross and sadistic. Just gross. And sadistic. Horrible movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/24/25 Full Review Marc Z This is a high disturbing and visually gut wrenching thriller that will both disgust and captivate you. There have been several movies made over the past several years about this theme, but this its the best, by far. Sebastian Stan is really quite good in this role. Daisy Edgar-Jones is terrific. The entire cast, although small, is worthy. This has some shocking elements. The highest praise for this film is the filmmaking. It is shot and edited in a unique and captivating style. The music is fantastic. Watch this, if you dare. Not for the faint of heart. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/23/25 Full Review Read all reviews
