Audience Member The film is directed by William Klein, the Paris-based American photographer and filmmaker famed for his in-your-face style. His is a "Messiah" with attitude, his "Hallelujah" a robust threnody for our times. "The reactions are very interesting, very strong," Klein said equably. "Some people hate it." One weekly magazine, he says, had to call a meeting of eight editorial departments to decide what position to take, while the Catholic daily La Croix declared itself thrilled. "The word is difficile, difficult," Klein said. "From the beginning I thought it would be a good film but I didn't know if anyone would go see it." He is sorry it opens at Christmas. "I was against it. First of all it's Mickey Mouse against 'The Messiah' and nobody can beat Mickey Mouse." http://www.nytimes.com/1999/12/18/style/william-klein-films-a-messiah-with-attitude.html Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Seen the DVD, and as always, love baroque music. Especially when pitting the music with images of humanity at its highest and lowest levels. In addition, this film switches between the divine and the profane, leaving the viewer to its ambiguity.
