What to Know

Critics Consensus

A retread of A Christmas Carol, featuring Matthew McConaughey in a retread of his Dazed and Confused role, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past lacks originality, humor, and any semblance of charm.

McConaughey too once showed promise, but here he seems to be auditioning for a bad sitcom, while Garner misuses her gawky sincerity. Go to Full Review

I suppose your reaction to the film will depend to some extent on whether or not you find Matthew McConaughey a charmer. I don't, so I found Connor repulsive with no redeeming features. Go to Full Review

Just in case you can't get enough of the romantic comedy oeuvre of Matthew McConaughey, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is here to remind you that, yes, some films of his are even worse than Failure to Launch, Surfer Dude, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Go to Full Review

stephen b Apr 13 It had some amusing moments. Otherwise, it was a familiar template applied to a familiar formula. See more Nat S Feb 2 I am not sure why this movie doesn’t have a higher rating. It is FUNNY, entertaining, and has a good lesson in the end. See more matthias s @Thescreenasvor 12/07/2024 *Ghosts of Girlfriends Past* is such a fun ride! Sure, it's a cliché and totally predictable, but sometimes that’s exactly what you need—a light, feel-good rom-com. The cast is amazing—Matthew McConaughey is perfect as the womanizing lead, and Jennifer Garner brings so much heart. And let’s not forget the hilarious supporting cast, especially Michael Douglas as the cheeky ghost mentor. The movie’s twist on Dickens’s *A Christmas Carol* is clever, and the jokes land really well. Yes, it’s pretty demeaning towards women at times, but that’s literally the point—to show how toxic that behavior is and why it needs to change. Honestly, it’s much better than people give it credit for. There’s humor, some emotional moments, and a lot of charm. It’s just pure, entertaining fluff. If you’re in the mood for something predictable but fun, this one’s a solid choice! See more Munkhchimeg T 07/20/2024 Adventurous to find the true love. I agree with it See more Avalon T 06/09/2024 Good movie. Great acting. Very entertaining movie. Not sure why the ratings aren't way higher. I've watched this twice -loved it each time.
