Audience Member This film is an absolute classic and timeless because it takes place in another world that is at once recognizable and unreal for normal people. A world of deceit, violence, ruthlessness, combined with a sense of tradition, honor, close family ties, unconditional loyalty and religiosity. A world of reasonless emotion and unfeeling professionalism. The quality of the film is that it not only deals with unscrupulous crimes, but also shows how people become trapped in a system of power and obligations from which there is hardly any escape. After all, in Romani culture, the family is everything and the head bears the responsibility of protecting his family. In an environment where the choice is to serve bad people or fight yourself ruthlessly for a place, morality fades. So brutal is this world that even close relatives must be sacrificed for family interests. The film has been of great importance. Not only has it opened the eyes of ordinary people to this world, it has also, unfortunately, been a huge inspiration to criminals who have become enamored with the ruthless exercise of power. For example, Indonesian criminals who ruthlessly massacred socialists under Suharto told how the Mafia films gave them all sorts of ideas for example strangling people by wrapping a steel wire around their necks. They also learned the method of threat and intimidation to extort shopkeepers from such films. So you can say that these films were also very "inspiring". Not that the films glorify violence, rather they show how people go down one by one in this harsh world and actually never build a happy existence and some security. The films are excellently acted. They are not clichés because the people in the underworld also wear these masks. Because in this world you have to wear a mask to avoid becoming a victim yourself. There is no place to show vulnerability. The persons become the mask they wear. In the first part, we see how Michael Corleone grows into his new role and is increasingly forced to shed his humanity. The film does not bore us for a moment. That some action movie fans find it boring is more a testament to the numbing effect that violence movies have. The violence addicts come to prefer senseless violence that no longer has any functional role in the story. These films have created a genre of their own, which is all a film can really achieve. This is why I highly reccomend to watch the movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member good but not the best Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
