Glenn Kenny RogerEbert.com The irrepressible tone of mordant giggliness this movie hits so often is entirely its own, keeping the movie buoyant throughout its over two-hour running time. Rated: 3/4 Oct 18, 2025 Full Review David Ehrlich IndieWire Just droll, twisty, and stylish enough to forgive this 136-minute film for using a lot more runway than it needs to be airborne, "Good News" is a veritable caricature of middle-management. Rated: C+ Oct 16, 2025 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety Energetic and astutely paced as it is, this tale simply goes on longer than maximum viewer involvement can withstand, its buoyancy eventually deflating somewhat. Still, too much of a good thing is better than none. Sep 23, 2025 Full Review Archi Sengupta LeisureByte.com Good News is a hilariously unhinged yet tense watch that will leave anyone on edge. Rated: 4/5 Oct 18, 2025 Full Review Sarah Musnicky But Why Tho? A Geek Community Good News will leave audiences guessing about who will prevail in the end. Rated: 7.5/10 Oct 17, 2025 Full Review Jonathon Wilson Ready Steady Cut It’s a strikingly theatrical way of making a fact-based film, but it does threaten to overwhelm that film’s ability to be anything beyond a funny aesthetic showcase, because the characters are such exaggerated cliches that they can’t be taken seriously. Ramon L There are a lot of plot holes but the ending was the biggest letdown. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/21/25 Full Review MB C Visually striking but tonally confused, Good News turns a real 1970 plane hijacking into a chaotic blend of satire and drama....The film aims to expose political hypocrisy and media manipulation, yet its overreliance on absurd humor drains the story of tension and emotional weight...Despite sharp production design and strong performances, the script wavers between serious critique and farce, never finding balance....What could have been a biting political reflection becomes an overlong, stylish mess..... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/21/25 Full Review Tim H The film has some positive points but finds itself in a no man's land that cannot settle on a satire, a drama, or a comedy. It doesn't help that the message is so depressing; essentially none of the heavily cliched actors have any character or authentic motivations. Everyone is thinking of how they will look and how they will be rewarded or punished for their actions. Interestingly the pilots may be the only characters in the film who don't seem overly motivated by impressing others. But every other character, whether a political appointee, a fixer, a company rep, a soldier, a hijacker... doesn't matter. All are just soulless filters for whatever they think the message of their higher ups would want them to present. Frankly it's a very depressing film. Maybe if this was on the level of Dr. Zhivago it could survive a cast of 30-40 obnoxious fools, but it slips and falls on the North Korean paint, which similarly was trying to cover up for a weak attempt to present something phony as something authentic. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/20/25 Full Review Jung-Chang K Awesome! its been a long time Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/20/25 Full Review 경희 배 What a brilliant and bittersweet political satire. Though it’s set in a specific time and place — Korea in the 1970s — it resonates universally. Because the ignorant power players who make us laugh before leaving us bitter, and the ones who should’ve been remembered as Somebodys but remain Nobodys, exist in every era and every nation. Director Byun Sung-hyun has now firmly joined the ranks of filmmakers whose names deserve to be remembered — a true Somebody.
