Bob Thomas Associated Press The film has several good laughs and no doubt some people will find it amusing and even philosophical. Others will find It episodic, confused and even embarrassing. Feb 9, 2019 Full Review Variety Staff Variety Good Sam is a comedy whose central character, played by Gary Cooper, often slows the film's pace because of a languidness and too obviously premeditated performance in a pic that in itself is unusually long. Jul 6, 2010 Full Review Bosley Crowther New York Times Good Sam makes agreeable entertainment and is good for a lot of laughs. Mar 25, 2006 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Though it's second-tier Leo McCarey fable and not a major star vehicle for Gary Cooper, it's still worth seeing this film Rated: B- Apr 1, 2012 Full Review Fernando F. Audience Member Love Gary Cooper but this was a disaster that even he couldn't pull off. It was OBVIOUSLY meant to be a knockoff of "It's a wonderful life" following the same basic plot but it fell extremely short. At the end one would expect the people who he'd helped to come forward to pay him back but they for the most part refused and it was left to a banker to give him a LOAN for their house. Anyone actually paying attention that hadn't got frustrated with his stupidity by now were probably thinking he'll just give away the mortgage payment before it makes it to the bank! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/13/24 Full Review Audience Member This movie is really weird. The leading man is a stupid character and a bad , stiff actor. The woman lead is a great actress but the character isn’t very charming. Very weird. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/22/20 Full Review Audience Member Lesser Leo McCarey film is overlong and rather bland. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Though it's second-tier Leo McCarey fable and not a major star vehicle for Gary Cooper, it's still worth seeing this film Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member One of my favorite Gary Cooper movies! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Gary Cooper and Irene Dunne are adorable in this movie - the writing is whip-smart, the set-ups are believable and the punch lines are perfect!
