Myles Standish St. Louis Post-Dispatch A brilliant and funny satire on the affluent, materialistic society. May 1, 2024 Full Review Jacob Brackman The New Yorker The Graduate engages its audience almost exclusively at the level of events until the grandly satisfying conclusion, when its problems (Benjamin's problems) seem to arrive at a happy solution. Rated: 5/5 Jun 6, 2022 Full Review Harry Solomons Loud and Clear Reviews Now as iconic as any great of the 1960s, The Graduate remains, by far, the most joyful treatise on the divide between the American young and old. Spencer Nielsen A near perfect film I wish I liked just a little bit more. Very interesting to see a very intimate, personal story shot in anamorphic widescreen. Accurately captures the struggle of legally being an adult while still functioning as a kid in the world you grew up in. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/21/24 Full Review D. Hunter P Its a classic movie for a reason. It also both suffers and benefits from the old methods of movie making. The movie was a lot shorter than it would have been now. There was not a lot of time to develop the positives of the relationship and attraction between Benjamin and Elaine. The awkwardness of the characters was very well done. The ending was definitely interesting. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review Kevin P A mesmerizing bittersweet deep dive into the relationship to people and the American Dream, and how the expectations and desires seem confused and changing upon the midpoint of the 20th century. Dustin Hoffman's character is fresh out of college and feels directionless, almost paralyzed in where to take his career and find true happiness. His neighbor Mrs. Robinson has already achieved the quote on quote "American Dream", yet is clearly unsatisfied and has become recklessly impulsive with trying to feel young again with her sexual coercion of the young Dustin Hoffman character. Yet he's drawn to her as he's trying to build his future while she's trying to reignite her youth. Simon & Garfunkel’s music tracks are iconic and add so much to the movie’s bittersweet melancholy about self-discovery. Admittedly, I wish the movie focused MORE on Dustin Hoffman's existential career crisis, as the narrative soon leans heavily into the love affair with Mrs. Robinson and its aftermath. But it still comes around with Dustin Hoffman's character trying to find true love with her daughter, culminating in the iconic wedding crash that pumps your adrenaline in excitement, only to worry for everyone's future in the "Now what?" Implications of the aftermath, worrying if they'll fall into the same emotional and career traps as their parents since this extreme scenario cornered them together and limited their support system for this newly won independence from their affluent, but restrictive & deceitful families. It's a bittersweet ending, but it's unforgettable and great for making you reflect on your own options for happiness and fulfillment with your career and relationships. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review Keith N This was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, it just made me feel so uncomfortable Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/16/24 Full Review Fatima A I really liked this movie, I liked the story of it. It was an interesting movie. I liked how he kept going back to the same hotel. I liked he still loved wit his parents. The scenes where he was in bed then ended up in the pool, was cool. I recommend this movie, it was a great movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/28/24 Full Review Syed R I would give this movie a 3.5/5 because it was kind of hard to watch but even harder to look away. It was a very funny movie and interesting. The graduate kept my attention throughout the movie but it had a lot of different twists that I believe that could have been a little bit better. Other than that, I think this movie was pretty solid. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/01/24 Full Review Read all reviews
