J. R. Jones Chicago Reader A wicked comedy. Rated: 3/4 Sep 24, 2015 Full Review Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times It's a creative hat trick of wildly amusing proportions. Aug 27, 2015 Full Review Tom Keogh Seattle Times This is a writer-director to watch. Rated: 3/4 Aug 20, 2015 Full Review Matt Shiverdecker Austin American-Statesman Guidance manages to be ridiculous and oddly charming. Sep 17, 2015 Full Review Adrian Mack Georgia Straight If Guidance struggles to find the right tone for its mounting provocations, it never yields to the kind of flat-out cynicism that's fashionable in Hollywood comedies. Aug 25, 2015 Full Review Elias Savada Film International A very impressive jump by Mr. Mills into the big time. He can play misguided as long as he wants. We need the laughs. Audience Member Unexpected Canadian Comedy Indie treat! My husband and I tried to muffle our laughter as we watched this comedy on Amtrak. Original, fun, flawed characters, and no sentiment. Tight writing and solid storyline. Watch it! Best sustained laughs this year. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Pat Mills has concocted a subversive, silly and oh-so-comically Canadian version of failed-actor-turned-guidance counselor. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Unconventional but surprisingly funny and hilarious look at a man in a downward spiral who, through posing as a high school counsellor, ends up helping a series of high school students through unconventionally asymmetrical & hilarious, yet surprisingly effective advice. His lies soon catch up with with him and force a humorous resolution that has a positive uplift. An interesting, yet small budget film of worthy interest. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Although it starts to wane in its final stretch, it is mostly ridiculous, irreverent, and much funnier than expected; You have to hand it to Mills, who is essentially a one man wrecking crew here. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Terrible movie. Halfway between stupid and absurd. Can't believe the ratings it got - you shouldn't either. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Guidance is a surprise of a film. It balances humor and heart exceptionally well. Like the rest of the reviews are saying, Pat Mills is one to look out for in the future Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
