Udita Jhunjhunwala Scroll.in The emotional thrust comes from Kiara Advani as the troubled teen, who is constrained by conditioning, distorted morality and contrition. Apr 10, 2020 Full Review Sukanya Verma Rediff.com It still succeeds in saying something pertinent about what we already know, but cannot hear enough until there is change in attitudes and fear of consequences. Rated: 3/5 Aug 27, 2024 Full Review Daniel Hart Ready Steady Cut Guilty is not a perfect film — it slogs through the second act, prolonging plot points that are not necessary, but purely from the perspective of a case study, this Netflix Indian film is a must-watch. Oct 9, 2023 Full Review Rahul Desai Film Companion The film feels like a dry, stage manifestation of a Twitter thread. Oct 9, 2023 Full Review Renee Schonfeld Common Sense Media A heartfelt effort to illuminate the complex subject matter, along with vibrant performances and an artful selection of music, somewhat make up for some distracting contrivances and missteps. Phillip Z The movie has an excellent storyline. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/16/23 Full Review Sylas Silas C Perfect movie perfect storyline Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Jake Gyllenhaal did an excellent job trying to make up for a storyline grasping to entertain an audience that more than likely lost interest half way through. Gyllenhaal managed to bring me to the end and I was left as most were - feeling let down yet appreciative of Jake's efforts. I'm sure some will pontificate about the connection of two disparate, internal struggle(s) between Joe and Emily whining to each other on the phone but this is a stretch. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Today, I am reviewing a feminist film, ‘Guilty'. The film is a Netflix project and is an impressive show. The plot of the film revolves around Nanki Dutta's (Kiara Advani) boyfriend, Vijay Pratap Singh (Gurfateh Singh Pirzada), who has been accused of rape by Tanu Kumar (Akansha Ranjan Kapoor), who is a new student in the same college. Seeing the hype around the #MeToo movement in India, earlier I was reluctant to see this movie but afterward, somehow my mind changed. I would not criticize the acting of characters, rather I would appreciate to some extent. This film focuses on crimes against women and promotes the #MeToo movement. Though the movement is not misused in the film, I still wouldn't recommend this film. I find today's youth in our country very immature. We can see glimpses in the film where various male students join protests held in Tanu Kumar's favour and they even say "Real Men are Feminists". I mean what the hell is that? I can't understand how someone could be so immature that the police investigations (in general) are going on or are pending and you have already given your judgment. This is childish and causes mental trauma to the accused if he is not guilty. You know, because of such fraudulent activities only #HimToo movement came into play. It is based on the false rape allegations against men, most of the allegations being part of the MeToo movement. I would like to give a clarification that I am not here to criticize this film but I criticize the very deep idea and people's immaturity. My advice to the film fraternity, quit making feminist films and make some dozen and a half films keeping #HimToo as the centre, not to promote this movement but to neutralize the negative effects of the MeToo movement. This point needs to be noted that the same coin has two faces and none can't be neglected. Sorry, yet I give this film a contrary rating of 1.5 stars and that wouldn't have occurred if individuals would be unprejudiced and treated people similarly and didn't follow MeToo indiscriminately. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review mirza m 'Guilty' is an important film failed by its half-baked writing and underwhelming narrative. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member 'Guilty' is not just a film, but also a powerful MeToo statement. Kiara Advani finally gets a screenplay befitting her acting prowess, because as Nanki Dutta, she is believable, relatable and reliable like a proficient actress. She has matured. The writing by Kanika Dhillon and Atika Chauhan is powerful, resilient and restrained- it's far from superficial and sluggish. Bit it's really the execution department where the film really falters. The film can't capture the rustic moments or somewhat works more on its unintentionally weak spot: despite being youthful and gripping this film loses its context almost entirely when it wants to get sportier. Also the humour is weak and there is not much going on when Nanki isn't on screen. And the emotional coherence is too waferthin, largely because it wants to stay soaked into the standard 'Dhamra' monologue, and isn't wanting to be a non-mainstream film, stuffed with flavours and imparting all it can. But despite the contrivances, 'Guilty' is worth watching without guilts because it delivers the MeToo payoff and refers to the important and powerful trend with too much respect. It's worth watching because it's lead star is in her finest of forms. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
