Alexander Ryll Gay Essential A majestic, all-embracing account of how a vulnerable young boy learns to glibly mold his childhood suffering into art, tenderness and creative literature. Nov 3, 2018 Full Review Bobby LePire Film Threat Since the movie hinges the crux of its emotional weight onto such a dull, uninspired sequence, it seems pointless. A maddening, inane affair that is pretty to look at. Rated: C- Feb 23, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Jason D Beautifully shot and masterfully written. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Alexander was incredible as the role of the Father, his face carried every expressive emotion of his character. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Genuine performances and beautifully executed-this film is an experience. The viewer is immersed in a story that becomes surprisingly relatable as this film holds a steady gait and yet meanders exquisitely when it needs to. An amazing art piece. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a beautiful, powerful, captivating film. The performances are top notch, especially Patricia Velasquez and Alexander Greymon. And of course, Luke Judy who plays the child. It was amazing to me how so much could be said with so few words. The direction is excellent. I love how the director made the poetry so fluid and natural, a difficult feat for an actor. The CINEMATOGRAPHY is awe INSPIRING. I enjoy black & White films, and this one really stands out. The right audience member fill find this film a gem, the wrong one won't get it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member An abstract dream-like piece that seamlessly blends poetry with story, this film illustrates one man's process through trauma suffered as a child. Filmed in black and white, the film calls back to a time when the beauty of a film was as mesmerizing as the story. Hughes' artistry gives us hope that art is indeed healing. Powerhouse performances all around in an expertly crafted film. Surely just the beginning for Hughes. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This exceptional film had a tremendous impact on me. Not only is this film a cathartic experience to anyone who has suffered childhood abuse but the take-away is that forgiveness must be the last piece of healing. Powerful performances make this a film you cannot take your eyes off of. The poetry is thoroughly entertaining and thought provoking. The film keeps you thinking long past leaving the theater. Vasquez brings a humanity to her character that invokes equal parts rage and empathy from the viewer. Impressive film from Hughes. I look forward to his next project.
