In the early 1950s, Eddie Mannix is busy at work trying to solve all the problems of the actors and filmmakers at Capitol Pictures. His latest assignments involve a disgruntled director, a singing cowboy, a beautiful swimmer and a handsome dancer. As if all this wasn't enough, Mannix faces his biggest challenge when Baird Whitlock gets kidnapped while in costume for the swords-and-sandals epic "Hail, Caesar!" If the studio doesn't pay $100,000, it's the end of the line for the movie star.

Richard Brody New Yorker Scintillating, uproarious, substantial, and playfully personal. Mar 23, 2020 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com In other words, it's perfect, and like the best of the duo's achievements it's an ending I'm going to be pondering for quite a long time to come. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 15, 2016 Full Review Roxana Hadadi Chesapeake Family Magazine Hail, Caesar! imagines the inner dealings of Hollywood during the early 20th century ... But the film's point for these shenanigans is possibly nonexistent. Rated: 3/5 Aug 2, 2016 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson The laughs come easy, but so do the extravagant storytelling indulgences. The film slips with disorganization and too many random and fanciful coincidences. Rated: 4/5 Oct 16, 2024 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film The Coen’s prowessness for balance is also important to note here, as it’s never overtly satirical. It’s jabs toward Hollywood are limited and the balance of recognizing the chaos but also giving us grounded humanity results in the film being playful... Rated: A- Aug 2, 2024 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) This one really hammers in why the Coens’ tonal balance is so hard to match, as this one hides any direct cynicism for the industry behind an ornate dedication to the fiercely dedicated weirdos who keep movies going. Hackney G Hilarious commentary and beautifully shot 1950s scenes together. Brilliant. Coen Brothers do it again! And an all star cast! For those who gave it 1 star. Lol. Watch a load more movies and then you'll get it. Only 44% liked this? Crazy! Also where was the chase at the end? Did we watch different movies? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/03/24 Full Review Jan P Biting satire of communism and capitalism. Absolutely hilarious. Recommended to first view with an edible, and then again without. Absolutely brilliant. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review Arcane M Well. Due to current reviews. I felt myself to possibly feel underwhelmed by this movie. Seeing it as dull, dumb and truly meaningless. All of these things I saw a complete opposite in. This movie isn’t just one of the Coen Brother’s best but a true win for Hollywood. The film has a abundance of legendary actors & actresses including: Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Alden Ehrenreich, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Scarlet Johansson, Tilda Swinton and Michael Gambon. The film bursts bold ideas and plots, set in a fast paced early 1950s while still emerging as quite timely. The comedy was hit upon hit upon hit, never disappointing. 3.5/5 stars Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/08/24 Full Review NASHVILLE I This movie is a good example of the audience being punished by the Coen brothers love affair with themselves. The movie is 90% stylistic musing, and 10% plot. Most of this movie is either pointless celebration of 50's era Hollywood, of pointless exhibition of the Coen brothers displaying their various styles of filmmaking that their known for. Basically, it's all style and no substance. They need to get over themselves. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/09/24 Full Review Kal S A beautifully bizarre bag of characters, as only the Coen brothers can package, resurrects the Golden Age of Hollywood. The tap-dancing sailor scene is worth the price of admission alone. 66% of the Rotten Tomatoes audience may just be too young to ‘get’ this one! (6/2/2018) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/23/24 Full Review First name L Despite it's playful tone, I couldn't figure out why I didn't like it. Then my sister said, "Did you notice how it didn't have a story?" Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/22/24 Full Review Read all reviews
