When impoverished Rosa (Ángela Molina) ignores a prophecy made by her psychic grandmother, Abuela (Margarita Lozano), and marries an itinerant knife-sharpener, a streak of terrible luck ends with her new husband dead. The widowed Rosa moves with her young daughter, Olvido (Carolina Silva), to work in the home of Don Pedro (Fernando Fernán Gómez), a wealthy man who fast becomes a champion of her cooking. When Rosa decides to explore her culinary talents, the winds of fortune begin to change.
