Stephen Holden New York Times Hannah Free is a tear-jerker about longtime lesbian lovers languishing in the same Michigan nursing home. Rated: 2.5/5 Dec 11, 2009 Full Review V.A. Musetto New York Post It might be OK some early morning on an obscure cable network. But that's it. Rated: 1/4 Dec 11, 2009 Full Review Nick Schager Time Out Gray-haired Gless grouches with embarrassing abandon while chatting with the young ghost of her soulmate and befriending a mysterious girl (Jackson). Rated: 1/5 Dec 9, 2009 Full Review Steve Ramos Boxoffice Magazine What Hannah Free offers are Gless' sass and good intentions. Achieving crossover business, even within the specialty film world, requires more. Audience Member A story about living and loving and letting go. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I thought it was fairly well done.. not perfect, but heartfelt . Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Quiet and a little depressing movie about love, life, death and saying goodbye - with a marvelous cast, especially the amazing Sharon Gless. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Adapted from a play and it showed. Sharon Gless was good in the role, but it was too slow and boring. They needed to show more variety in the flashbacks and delve deeper into the world back then. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Adapted from a play and it showed. Sharon Gless was good in the role, but it was too slow and boring. They needed to show more variety in the flashbacks and delve deeper into the world back then. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member It was okay but nothing to rave about despite the film winning so many awards. http://www.hannahfree.com/ I think this info summarizes the plot very nicely: "Hannah and Rachel grew up as little girls in the same small Midwest town, where traditional gender expectations eventually challenge their deep love for one another. Hannah becomes an adventurous, unapologetic lesbian and Rachel a strong but quiet homemaker. Weaving back and forth between past and present, the film reveals how the women maintained their love affair despite a marriage, a world war, infidelities, and family denial." Sharon Gless performance was fine and a good plot but I found it very depressing towards the end. I recommend it but not part of my collection..
