Shay C Wow, Nazis as villains? I've never heard of that before. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/01/24 Full Review Tony M Hannibal Rising is an origin story. It shows us how Hannibal Lecter became the man he is. It's an interesting idea and a fun movie. Check it out. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/20/23 Full Review Mo F I watched the hanibal series and now this. Not sure about the timelines but there are many references which are the same. I enjoyed the movie because i like seeing bad people get killed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/18/23 Full Review Lana L I would give this film 4.5 stars. It's excellent---though bloody and violent. The acting was absolutely superb; the cinematography, outstanding; the visuals absolutely first-rate. Everything, writing as well, were done with great artistry. I'm not quite sure why they placed the precipitating event on the Eastern Front but perhaps it was so as to not ruffle the sensibilities of Americans (that someone like that could come from this country), or that the Eastern Front was so utterly evil during the war that evil retribution and its consequence could only arise from that well-spring. Critics have criticized the main character's motives: I would guess that perhaps he had a predisposition to violence, the war and the deaths of his parents traumatized him, and the death of his sister pushed him over the psychological edge. As a person who has worked with combat soldiers at the VA, I can vouch for the fact that war does awful things to a person's psyche. Gong Li is a well- known Chinese actress (Memoirs of a Geisha). As always, her performance was perfection. However, it is Gaspard Ulliel, as Hannibal that is riveting. Now, there's the actor who should have played the Batman nemesis, The Joker. He would have made a better Joker than any of the individuals who were actually cast. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/25/23 Full Review Chhaya Y Just skip this one. It barely has anything to do with Hannibal Lector other than him being the main character Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/04/23 Full Review Ida M I honestly thought it was pretty good, maybe it's just nostalgia talking, but I actually liked it... Sure, it's no masterpiece, but it was entertaining and had a few "aha!" moments which I really like, it's not really an amazing prequel to Silence of the lambs, but I liked it as a simple Hannibal Lecter movie! Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express [Hannibal Rising] shows us the death of a little boy, and the birth of a monster, but at no point does it make us want to look over our shoulder. May 22, 2019 Full Review Namrata Joshi Outlook In a nutshell, it's all about the hideous ways of killing, flesh-pounding images, slain heads, blood and gore. Rated: 1/4 Jan 25, 2019 Full Review Owen Gleiberman Entertainment Weekly Rated: D Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed Routine, boring, and typical... Jan 5, 2023 Full Review PJ Nabarro Patrick Nabarro Hannibal Rising? More like Hannibal Risible in this truly infantile film that conceives of Hannibal Lector as a superhero in his own origin flick. This tacky, hackneyed idea finds a tacky and hackneyed grammar to boot. Rated: 1/5 Feb 12, 2022 Full Review Betsy Sherman Arts Fuse [Hannibal Rising] is a handsome and involving macabre drama, with a pathos that tempers the horror-movie shocks.
