All Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) has ever wanted is to be a professional hockey player. But he soon discovers he may actually have a talent for playing an entirely different sport: golf. When his grandmother (Frances Bay) learns she is about to lose her home, Happy joins a golf tournament to try and win enough money to buy it for her. With his powerful driving skills and foulmouthed attitude, Happy becomes an unlikely golf hero -- much to the chagrin of the well-mannered golf professionals.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Those who enjoy Adam Sandler's schtick will find plenty to love in this gleefully juvenile take on professional golf; those who don't, however, will find it unfunny and forgettable.

Dave Kehr New York Daily News The comedy is never more than sudden, outsized explosions of violence from the otherwise placid, childlike Happy. But director Dugan maximizes the laughs through careful timing and counterpoint. David C Está chistosa la actuación de Adam Sandler es muy buena Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/21/25 Full Review Audience Member Alright, boys, let’s talk about Happy Gilmore—the classic 90s comedy where a washed-up hockey player trades in his skates for a set of golf clubs and somehow turns the PGA Tour into a beer league brawl. If that doesn’t scream "Canadian dream," I don’t know what does. Adam Sandler plays Happy, a guy who can’t quite cut it in hockey but finds out he’s got a drive like a cannon. Instead of breaking ankles, he starts breaking course records (and the odd kneecap) with his slapshot-style swing. It’s a beauty premise—mixing hockey’s aggression with golf’s snobby calm, and obviously, the two don’t mix well. But that’s where the comedy comes in. The best part? This flick has some all-time legendary moments. Happy dropping the gloves on Bob Barker? Absolute gold. The iconic “Just tap it in” putting lesson? If you’ve ever tried golfing after a few too many, you know that struggle. And let’s not forget Shooter McGavin, one of the best villains in sports movie history. Guy’s got the arrogance of a first-liner who refuses to backcheck. Sure, it’s not high art, but who cares? It’s got laughs, some solid golf action, and a ton of hockey references for the boys. The only reason it’s not a 10/10 is because, let’s be real, Happy should’ve found his way back to hockey at the end. Guy had hands of stone but a heart of gold—he’d be a beauty on the forecheck. Final verdict: Happy Gilmore is a must-watch, especially with a case of cold ones and the fellas. If you’ve ever thrown your clubs on the course, this one’s for you. 8 outta 10 Molsons. 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/21/25 Full Review Sophia C This movie is amazin, it was a very funny movie. please make more with adam sandler like these. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/14/25 Full Review CJ J A decent movie with Adam Sandler and Carl Weathers even though I didn’t really like the comedy, I still thought it was a enjoyable movie.
