Mark Olsen Los Angeles Times Represents much of what is wonderful and fresh about the recent wave of ultra-low-budget American independent filmmaking. Rated: 4/5 Mar 25, 2010 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Austin, Texas, has never looked more unlovely, and its residents more clueless, than in Harmony and Me, a funny, wry mumblecore comedy by Bob Byington. Rated: 3/4 Nov 5, 2009 Full Review Michael Phillips Chicago Tribune In a flat, dry affect, the movie sings the breakup blues. Rated: 3/4 Nov 5, 2009 Full Review Peter Keough Boston Phoenix This bagatelle from Bob Byington is Greenberg lite, or maybe an edgier The Office, or softcore mumblecore. Apr 21, 2010 Full Review Ron Wilkinson Monsters and Critics A great new director with a great and laid back saga that will be too laid back for some but well worth the watching. Rated: 7/10 Oct 12, 2009 Full Review Don R. Lewis Film Threat Bob Byington's "Harmony and Me" is an indie gem that isn't at all what it appears to be at first glance. Audience Member One of my favorite independent films. It's fun, fast paced, engaging... A delight. It has a seemingly typical story for an independent film; a guy painfully hung up on a past girlfriend, working out his issues. But it's not really typical at all. It's a rare independent comedy that's sarcastic but not mean spirited. Innocent but not naive. Heartfelt but not dramatic. Most important, I like Harmony. I root for him. I enjoy watching him and I love what the story does with him. By the time it ends (after less than 90 minutes) I feel 100% satisfied. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review nefasto r Doesn't get any indier than this, but I have to say that It is also one of the most honest and funny films I watched recently. The story is simple and old as time: braking up and dealing with it, but in this little pearl it sounds like something new. Looks like it's true that money isn't everything after all. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Flat and dry in tone, Bob Byington's film is an odd take on the down and out blues. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member For an ultra low budget indie, Harmony and Me is quite enjoyable. Even though it's horribly shot and directed, the comedy is sharp and the actors - especially Justin Rice - are fully competent. What more could you ask of a mumblecore flik? Well, a better ending, I suppose; the dous ex machina is atrocious, but it's Harmony you really care about in the end. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Good picture! Can't wait to see more from this Bob Byington fellow. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member An ultra low-budget film that has the feel of a collection of short stories, sprinkled with the humor of The Office (U.S.). It doesn't exactly grasp it's central topic down, but at an hour and 15 minutes, Harmony and Me is a breezy and welcome mumblecore, and superior to peers like The Colour Wheel and The Puffy Chair.
