Retired jockey Tom Harrigan (William Gargan) guides apprentice rider Benny McNeil (Bobby Readick), encouraging him to accept the interest of leading trainer Walter Garnet (Frank Craven), but the boy refuses. Fearing that Benny will soon grow too tall to ride, Tom pushes him to race as much as possible. After winning his next race, Benny is cautioned for roughness. In order to improve the boy's future, Tom stuns Benny by selling his contract to Garnet, who proves a tough taskmaster.
